📌 In this article, we're looking at ESG opportunities and risks in Central Asia and, particularly, #Kazakhstan for UK and European companies. While there are opportunities to diversify from Russia and transition to greener energy sources, the region is facing multiple human rights, #environmental and biodiversity issues, especially in strategic sectors - nuclear, hydropower, mining. For companies engaging in said sectors in the region, compliance with ESG and #forcedlabour regulations might pose increased difficulties due to risks of a lack of supply chain visibility and public procurement transparency. ✉ For more information on our ESG services, contact Natasha Buchler, Head of #ESG.

IMHO, #POLITICO is still in the "cheap #Russian #gas" #propaganda bubble and is short on writing about the needlessly burned hundreds of billions of European #energy #subsidies to keep the continent alive, the sinking #competitiveness; and the simple fact that #European #industry would be somewhere else without 50 years of Russian gas supply. By the way, none of the puppet allies ever offered substitute energy supplies. On the contrary, they used #sanctions to contain Europe's economic development and worked to #disrupt European-Russian energy relations. In 2022 Nord Stream was blown up - it is only time when Article 51 will be referenced. Last, one POSEIDON (on neutral waters) is enough to liquidate Europe's main energy infrastructure and make TTF a historical item.

As Russian President Putin completed a whirlwind visit to the UAE and Saudi Arabia, further details of Russian energy revenues are emerging pointing to a failure of U.S.-led sanctions. Sanctions have a chance of working when the majority of the world’s countries are aligned. When they’re not, the sanctions become diluted and ineffectual. This has been the case with the 11 rounds of sanctions levied on Russia since early 2022, adding to those imposed since 2014. The Russian economy has adjusted - arguably faster than even the most optimistic of Russian leaders expected or hoped for - and is now well set on expansion. The IMF expects the Russian economy to grow at rates faster than that of the U.S., and certainly faster than the Eurozone. The contours of global value flows are now congealing in ways previously unimagined. The Eurasian economic zone, anchored by energy and logistics infrastructure, and bookended by east and west Asia are providing the new drivers of economic development. #sanctionsfail #russia #eurasia #westasia

Pakistan is talking to the US about its energy needs, says the Foreign Office. They're aware of US concerns over potential sanctions regarding energy deals with Iran. However, Pakistan maintains trade cooperation with Iran to meet its needs. During President Raisi's visit, they discussed energy trade and the gas pipeline project. Pakistan and Iran also discussed a free trade agreement. Pakistan condemns Israel's actions in Palestine and seeks international investigation. They dismiss the US State Department's human rights report. #PakistanUSRelations #EnergyCooperation #IranTrade #SanctionsConcerns #GasPipelineProject #FreeTradeAgreement #IsraelPalestineConflict #HumanRightsReport

The countries responsible for importing Russian fossil fuels and thus perpetuating the war in Ukraine include China, India, Turkey, EU and Singapore. As per Centre for Research on Energy and Clean Air (CREA)' s report, Russia exported EUR 6.33 bn worth of fossil fuels. This included EUR 2.91 bn in oil, EUR 2.04 bn in oil products and chemicals, EUR 0.8 bn in gas, and EUR 0.59 bn in coal. Moreover, EUR 2.74 bn was loaded onto European/G7-owned or insured tankers, inadvertently funding Russia's invasion. These statistics remain shocking, emphasizing the pressing need for the EU to take decisive action and curb Russian aggression in Ukraine through stronger sanctions.

The prevailing reality stands quite different from the narrative presented by Western-dominated (English language) media and think tank reports. An established fact is Russia has been able to survive the barrage of Western sanctions, and now steadily creating a global (energy)-order that suits its interests. My latest published article sheds light on this. #Russia #oilandgas #Geopolitics #Eurasia #energy #MiddleEast https://lnkd.in/gPM8eErE
