What is a Lawn Weed? In gardening and lawn care, the term "weed" generally refers to any plant that is growing where it is not wanted as it competes against more desirable plants. The term "weed" generally refers to any plant that grows where it is not wanted. Weeds can also detract from the aesthetics of a garden or lawn. Weeds are often considered undesirable because they tend to compete with cultivated plants, lawns, or crops for resources such as nutrients, water, sunlight, and space. Examples of common weeds include dandelions, daisies, chickweed, bindweed, thistles, and many more, including weed grasses such as annual meadow grass, Yorkshire fog and couch grass. While some plants considered weeds may have beneficial properties or be edible, they are typically unwanted in specific areas and are often managed or removed to maintain the health and aesthetics of gardens, lawns, and agricultural fields: https://lnkd.in/e6yZmE_A #lawns #weeds #gardens #turf #lawncare #horticulture #gardening #plants #advice

Gardening with Gundula: Bulbine frutescens🐝 This plant is a rapidly growing, branched succulent perennial characterized by its fleshy, linear green leaves arranged in opposite rows that clasp the stems at their base. The flowers can be yellow or occasionally orange, attracting bees. The fresh leaves yield a jelly-like juice that is effective for treating burns, rashes, blisters, insect bites, and cracked skin. It serves as an easy-to-maintain, water-efficient groundcover that remains visually appealing throughout the year with minimal care. Propagation can be achieved through seeds, cuttings, or division of clumps, ideally in the spring. Transplanting is possible once the seedlings develop four leaves and the cuttings establish a robust root system. #babylonstoren #franschhoek #capewinelands #farmlife #winecountry #gardening #simonsberg #thisissouthafrica #growyourown #gardenlife #lovegardening #instagarden #greenfinger #planting #horticulture

"It’s a great time to be planting ‘bare-root’, shrubs or trees if the soil is not frosted. Being lifted ‘bare-root’ i.e. lifted from nursery soil and not grown in containers, they are very cost effective if you have many to plant. January can be a busy time in your garden, dependant on the number of shrubs you have. The key task is hand pruning – a chilly task on a cold winters day! It’s a task though best completed before the plants sap begins to rise in the spring. Many shrubs can be pruned towards the end of the month if the weather allows, but check them online first as various shrubs need pruning at various times."
