I'm seeing sales recruiters advertise totally unrealistic OTEs for tech sales roles. 👎 This week a $120K + Super + $320K OTE role was advertised for a Mid-Market Account Executive. Here is why this is nonsense: - Most tech companies commission structure sits somewhere between 5-10% of sales. - Most Mid-Market Account Executives targets are circa $700-$800K per year as ramp up moves to $1M+ eventually. - This means for an Account Executive to achieve around $200K in commission they would need to achieve upwards of $1.5M with deal sizes around $30K-$50K. Yes' I'm sure there is a rep in that company that has achieved this after a couple of years but this doesn't mean this is what you advertise as the OTE for the role. Alright, I am hiring for an Enterprise Field Sales Rep and my network (and extended network) came through with a ton of interest in the open role(s) ...however, I realize now I should have set some parameters ha. If you meet the following (or think you can) shoot your shot via DM, Video, Email, Fax, Etc.... and lets get process rolling: 1. Enterprise Sales Experience: 6-12 month cycles, multiple stakeholders, and 7 figure deals. 2. Ability to travel: This is a heavy in person role. While the job is remote >50% of the time is going to be spent on the road. The plus side, is prospecting isn't a thing for this role...we have something people want. Accounts are heavily focused in NC/SC/GA. 3. A desire to be great: I don't hire average, I don't manage average, you will be held to a standard that is higher than anything you've been a part of in the past. It is not for everyone, but then again not everyone wants to be great. Coaching and feedback are paramount to us succeeding, if you give me everything you have you will get the same in return (plus stupid commissions, flexibility, and a champion in your corner who will always have your best interest at heart).
