👋 Hello! How was your experience in the last month of 2023? We'd like to discuss the topic of diversity in recruitment. Not too long ago, we mentioned that many of the job openings we handle don't fit the traditional criteria, but that's what we find intriguing about our work! Today, we'd like to highlight one of our unique cases: a position for an Embedded Software Developer specializing in microcontrollers at a hardware and firmware development startup that focuses on logistics visibility. We encountered three main challenges: 🔹 A limited pool of experts with the required senior or lead-level expertise (C/C++). 🔹 Scarcity of candidates on common platforms like LinkedIn, where profiles may exist but aren't actively used. 🔹 Location: The entire development team was located in Georgia, but non Georgian speaking, only english and west European speakers. We successfully overcame each of these obstacles, and in our next update, we will share the techniques we employed. Stay tuned as always! #embeddedengineer #jobopenings #recruitmentstrategy

95% of job listings sound the same, and use the same boring layout and phrases. Instead, Treat your job posting like a landing page when hiring. At the end of the day, you're selling someone on why they should join your team. My eyes glaze over when I read: "Collaborate with cross-functional teams to understand and optimize products" If you have core values, frame the post around these. It will help filter out the wrong people, and attract the right people, who will be a better fit on your team. A small example from a listing we're about to post for a senior engineer

Engineers don’t want boring jobs — and companies struggle to hire senior-level engineers because they don’t understand this. Top-caliber engineers have no interest in taking on a job that involves updating phone numbers on top of mobile headers, especially when they were doing multi-cloud development in a previous project. Furthermore, signing on to work with most companies these days means committing to a 3 - 5 year lock-in to earn RSUs and additional options. It’s a lot of uncertainty: What will I be doing the whole time? Will the company even make it? Engineers, for the most part, prefer stable, well-defined work that lets them spend time with their families and hobbies over buying into somebody else’s IPO dreams. We’ve taken that into account at Codingscape. We have no issues with hiring senior engineers because the work is engaging, there’s always another project to work on here, and their role provides a great level of stability and freedom. In other words: there are no boring jobs at Codingscape.

Energy demand/consumption projections toward 2050s have focused largely around the introduction of an electrified transportation fleet, but have left out the demand for power around AI/data centers. Software engineers looking to work in the post-AI electrified world should check out the job opportunities at Grid Status. In a short period, they have become the defacto way to share about energy prices and demand patterns.
In the last 18 months, Grid Status has grown from 0 to thousands of active users. We've gotten a lot done as a small team, but it's time to grow the team! So, we just put up our first two job postings ever: 1. Senior Software Engineer: https://lnkd.in/g-HwQ_Sa 2. Head of Business Development: https://lnkd.in/gvHu2RtY No experience in the energy industry is necessary—just a strong eagerness to learn. Our team's passion and expertise will help you quickly get up to speed. If making an impact on the future of the energy industry excites you, you’ll fit right in. If we’ve worked together in the past or you have a referral, please reach out and share! Visit our job postings page to learn more: https://lnkd.in/gHiSyv_f
