Really? 🔧 Dan Gower 🖌️ doesn't have to "justify" anything to Amy Miller. His "undisclosed criteria" is legal, ethical, relevant... and elegant. (Gower also didn't limit the contact method to Inmails; I'm sure he would have been happy to get phone calls and emails from candidates seeking his attention.) Because on the hiring manager's side, cutting down 200 sale candidates to 10 superior sales candidates by selecting on a highly relevant BEHAVIORAL criteria, seems like EXACTLY what you want to do if you want to hire self-starting sales people. Maybe order-takers who expect to be spoon-fed the instructions would be good for some sales jobs, but if you can't see the relevance of a candidate who "went around the system to contact the principal and attempt to close a sale" to a SALES JOB, then it's not Gower that needs to justify their thinking about recruiting.

I know the original post has been going around but I thought I'd share Amy's with a few of my thoughts on the OP... First, whenever someone puts a 'rule' out there that no one else knows about, it's problematic. Having people follow defined rules is good. Having people unknowingly not follow rules that haven't been defined is bad. It is an irrational behavior. Rational behavior: Easy Apply button is posted on the job opening, use the feature provided. Irrational behavior: I'll put this Easy Apply button here and I will then reject anyone who uses it, but they don't know that. Fast forward to the people who are now working for this person (the OP). Because they have witnessed the irrational behavior that came with justifications, the employees now subconsciously questions when that irrational behavior will show up again. This time, it could be them affected. They know this, but don't know how to manage. So they operate from a fear perspective. Fearful that on any random day, this irrational behavior will show up and affect them negatively. Before we jump to the defense and call irrational behavior smart, genius, etc. It's really not. At least this guys name and company are still out there and visible. If you decide that sort of behavior is good for you and a place where you can be successful, go ahead and apply. Or reach out to him directly. Clearly you may not make it through the process because he could change the rules again after his recent viral post.
