Research: Low-Dose Naltrexone Ineffective for Fibromyalgia "In the 99-patient trial, those assigned to naltrexone reported a mean 1.3-point decline in pain intensity after 12 weeks, compared with a decrease of 0.9 points in a placebo group (P=0.27), according to Karin Due Bruun, MD, PhD, of Odense University Hospital in Denmark, and colleagues. Given that pain was rated on an 11-point scale, the difference of 0.4 points would not have been clinically important even if it had achieved statistical significance. But naltrexone showed signs of providing a genuine benefit for cognition. Patients' ratings of memory problems did improve significantly more in the naltrexone group (-1.4 vs -0.5 points on the 11-point scale, P=0.004), the researchers reported in Lancet Rheumatology “We suggest that future trials investigate this further,” Due Bruun's group concluded." https://lnkd.in/ee8TSpaV #MECFS #MyalgicE #Fibromyalgia #Fibro #Research #LowDoseNaltrexone #LDN

🚀 **Announcing Our Collaborative Study on Chronic Pelvic Pain and Endometriosis!** 🚀 We're excited to share the findings from our recent study driven forward by team members Drs. Nicole Jimenez , Ph.D. and Taylor Norton exploring the differences in vaginal and gastrointestinal microbiomes and the cervicovaginal immune microenvironment among patients with chronic pelvic pain (CPP) and endometriosis. 🔬 **Study Highlights:** - Significant differences in rectal microbiome diversity between CPP groups and controls. - Enrichment of irritable bowel syndrome-associated bacteria in CPP patients. - Increased vaginal Streptococcus, Lactobacillus, and Prevotella in patients with CPP and endometrioma. - Distinct immune profiles for CPP alone and CPP with endometriosis. This research lays the groundwork for studying CPP and endometriosis, particularly in the context of additional conditions like abnormal uterine bleeding and fibroids. A big thank you to our dedicated team of CPP and endometriosis experts that included surgeons, epidemiologists and researchers and participants for making this important study possible. Nichole Mahnert Leslie Farland Emerald Bell and Michelle Valenti Gurbeen Dadiala 🚀 Together, we're making strides in understanding the complexities of chronic pelvic pain. An interesting article just published regarding the implications of osteoporosis associated with Rheumatoid Arthritis (RA). https://bit.ly/46T1rpe While machine learning (ML) outcomes to predict osteoporosis and fracture risk (FR) from this study are based on a Korean RA database and study subjects, the authors report that their Rheumatology researcher cohorts in the U.S. indicate that only 11% of RA patients in North America undergo a diagnostic bone mineral density (BMD) test within their first year of diagnosis, with only 30% of female patients diagnosed with RA getting a BMD test within 4.4 years. Per the authors, the prevalence of osteoporosis in those afflicted with RA is two times higher than in the general population. Similarly, fracture risk for RA patients is roughly double as well. The authors have developed a compelling predictive ML model for osteoporosis prediction in RA patients. Interestingly, the primary features influencing the ML model come down to body habitus and age for RA patients. However, It is evident that access and compliance to BMD and FR diagnostics to validate predictive model outcomes and subsequently manage their bone health for RA patients could be improved. Radiofrequency Echographic Multi Spectrometry (REMS) provides a portable easy-to-use point-of-care solution for measuring BMD and FR. https://lnkd.in/eaX_f9Gk #REMS #rheumatology #osteoporosis #machinelearning #artificialintelligience #AI #BMD #RA #rheumtoidarthritis #glucocoritcoids #FractureRisk Echolight IVMatters

Exciting news for the field of regenerative medicine! 🏆 Advanced Medicine of the Ozarks' Dr. Ronald F. Bruton and NP Tracie Gilliland have presented a novel case series studying the application of Wharton's jelly tissue allograft to sites around the affected tarsal tunnel. This homologous use application has validated non-surgical allograft application and sets a precedent for alternative interventions for patients who have failed other standard-of-care treatments. "My hope is that more providers will realize the benefits of Wharton's Jelly and be willing to step outside of their comfort zone to give patients more options. Our patients deserve that. At Advanced Medicine of the Ozarks, we treat the root cause of the problem, not just mask the symptoms," shared NP Tracie Gilliland. Read the full study, "Wharton's Jelly Tissue Allograft for Connective Tissue Defects Surrounding Nerves in the Tarsal Tunnel: A Retrospective Case Series," published by MDPI here: https://lnkd.in/efAQbgqi. This is just one of many homologous-use applications in regenerative medicine to improve patient outcomes. #regenerativemedicine #neuropathy #tarsaltunnel
