Our Prefabricated Construction team recently completed a stunning office transformation for Markel, a leading financial holding company specializing in specialty insurance products. The use of black powder coat on the office and meeting room glass fronts continues to be one of the most popular interior finishes for commercial projects for several years running.
Markel is standardized on DIRTT throughout their organization’s locations, ensuring consistency and excellence across the board. A huge thank you to IA Interior Architects for partnering with us and making this project a success!

To address the current housing and cost of living crisis, it's crucial for the government to actively support the construction industry in advancing healthy, affordable prefabricated housing options like this! Far too many individuals are being forced to spend their limited resources on substandard solutions such as caravans, shipping containers, and expander pods that rely on makeshift construction techniques. These options often result in severe cold, inadequate access to essential facilities, improper waste disposal, are prone to mould from water ingress and condesation. They are a significant draw on local government and often police resources due to constant generator noise, environmental damage, and unpleasant odors.
By investing in and promoting high-quality, sustainable housing solutions, the government and construction industry can significantly improve living conditions for those most affected by the crisis. I’m so pleased to see initiatives like this and hope it can be scaled and expanded on to provide an affordable, healthy and dignified living option for many.
Do you remember how I told you last week that the skin of this building is actually double?
Behind the stainless steel fabric façade that protects the interior of the Indra offices in Barcelona from very intense sunlight there is a large glass façade that runs the entire height of the upper body of the building.
The glass façade is almost invisible behind the elegant and imposing presence of the steel panels, but in fact it is there and I cannot ignore it if I am to represent the building in a coherent series of photographs that explain it.
But how to do it? When you photograph architecture of this scale the only thing you have besides determining a point of view with your camera is just sunlight.
And you don't need anything else, just a little time to wait for how you want to see the building and for the light to be the right one that fits your vision.
For the Indra HQ, I waited until I could hint at the illuminated interior and the transparency of the façade, both with the fluorescent lights in the offices on and with the blue of the sky peeking out behind the metal façade.
That happened shortly after sunset and waiting any longer would have been pointless. The sky would have a denser color towards black and the office floors would be lit too aggressively, hiding the color of the steel that makes the building unique.
Everything happens very quickly and you have to be there with your camera. Architectural photography is mainly light and time, just that and nothing else.

I think it's the most authentic a video can get to truly represent Architecture.
>The goal was to create a process that had the soul of a quality image, with the surreal nature of a computer rendering, with cinematic movement. In the end, the process was a mix of Photography techniques that no camera and lens combination can produce on its own...
1. Exposure bracketing eliminates the windows from being overly bright and 'blown out' while the interior feels natural and true.
2. Raw video format retains all the color data, necessary to mix and fix where the outside and inside lighting overlap, and discolor interior finishes and furniture.
3. Photo Stitching, used to create panoramic photos, is what allows the composition to be wider, with more detail and straight lines, than any lens is capable of. Something only ever experienced through Computer Renderings.
While the entire process from beginning to end is quite extensive, in the end the visuals are breathtaking.
