With few exceptions, California employers must draft and implement a Workplace Violence Prevention Plan by July 1st. Cal/OSHA recently released a template for employers’ use, but covered businesses ultimately are responsible for ensuring their compliance with Labor Code Section 6401.9. Effective July 1, 2024, it will be mandatory for almost every California employer to implement a comprehensive workplace violence prevention plan. The new regulation, SB 553, comes with specific requirements that all employers must meet. This means that employers need to start preparing well in advance to ensure that they meet the requirements and avoid any potential violations.
