Last night, my wife and I ate at Chama Gaucha Brazilian steakhouse in San Antonio. If you're ever in the area, I highly recommend checking it out. Here are a few things they do that every marketer can learn from. 👇 #1: Make Customers Feel Like VIPs One of the things that Chama Gaucha does better than anyone else is making customers feel like VIPs. The managers stop by your table multiple times during the meal to see how you're doing. Waiters stop to push your seat in for you when you need to sit down. The entire staff is constantly checking in to see if you need anything. It's a really impressive experience and makes you FEEL like a VIP more than any other restaurant. #2: Bring the Energy The staff also does a great job of bringing good energy to the experience. Everyone is buzzing around, looking for ways to help, and making sure you never wait long for whatever it is that you need. There never is a moment where a staff member has low energy, feels put out, etc. Overall, the vibe and energy is infectious and makes it a very fun dining experience. #3: Focus on the Experience Speaking of experience, eating at Chama Gaucha is all about...the experience. The food is amazing, but it's not just about the food. It's about the way you're greeted when you enter the door, the way the staff answers questions at the salad bar, and the way the managers bring your check to make sure they have one final touchpoint before you walk out the door. It's all about an experience that elevates the amazing food they serve. #4: Give Something Extra Every time my wife and I have visited, Chama Gaucha has given us something extra. The first time we went, they gave us a $50 gift card to get us to come back (keep in mind we did drop some coin for my mother-in-laws 70th birthday party). This most recent visit, they asked what we were celebrating, and then gave us dessert on the house for our anniversary. They also gave us a $35 gift card to use on our next visit. Both were great way to make our visit more pleasant and to make us want to come back again. Lessons for eCom Brands The main lessons for eCom brands are... ✅ Make sure you focus on the overall experience for your brand and not just the transaction. ✅ Do whatever you can to make your customers FEEL like VIPs. ✅ Give people something extra with every order, like a $10 voucher to use on their next purchase. So many restaurant owners feel like they have to resort to offering discounts to keep clients coming back. Their intentions are right, but the execution falls short. They end up in a cycle of diminishing returns. It's an unsustainable model that creates a race to the bottom. It impacts owners' margins and restricts their ability actually to make net revenue. What I've discovered is a better way to build customer loyalty. A shift from discounts to creating value. From short-term tactics to long-term strategy. From eroding your brand to elevating it. Here's what I’ve seen work: Gift Instead of Discount: --> Offer a gift card for repeat purchases instead of a discount. --> Attach a $10 gift card to orders, or use a digital card with a QR code. Loyalty Program: --> Implement a points-based loyalty program. --> Every dollar spent earns points towards free food or discounts. Value Perception: --> Focus on adding value rather than cutting costs. --> Position your restaurant as a premium choice, offering more for their money. This approach has worked for so many QSR restaurants. And shifted the customer’s perception from devaluing it to strengthening it.
