In 2022, 24% of LGBTQ+ adults in America reported mistreatment or blame for their health problems from their care provider. Discrimination in healthcare only piles on to the emotional and physical stressors already felt by many in the LGBTQ+ community. That's why comprehensive health coverage with a wide range of services and access to care can provide the support your employees need. You can advance the well-being of your workplace community by offering personalized, inclusive whole-health care. Health education initiatives, an Employee Assistance Program for access to counseling and mental well-being, and established partnerships with healthcare providers are a few ways to promote the whole health of your employees. Today is International Day Against Homophobia, Transphobia, and Biphobia – a day created to draw attention to the violence and inequities that LGBTQ+ communities continue to experience and the need to do more allyship work to cultivate equity and safety for LGBTQ+ communities. As cisgender and hetero allies, we must use our voices and actions to call out homophobia, transphobia, biphobia and more and support our LGBTQ+ colleagues, friends, family members, and neighbors – not only today but every day. There’s so much more work to do here! For example, and as you’ll have heard me mention in the past, did you know that until May 17th, 1990, homosexuality was considered a mental health disorder in the World Health Organization’s International Classification of Diseases? That’s just under 35 years ago!!! 🤯 Let’s keep fighting the fight today and every day, especially given the anti-LGBTQ+ rhetoric and violence that we’re seeing out there!
