I am interested in what this conversation might reveal about teaching #reading. I am also interested in hearing from #educators who have actually worked in a primary classroom for a whole year or more and have practical experience actually #teaching reading. I have that experience. I have taught many children who learned to read in my classroom. We learned the parts of words, we explored what those parts sounded like, we made nonsense words, we talked strategy. We also read together. We read books and laughed and reflected together. We read to understand ourselves, and the world around us. My question to the teachers who actually teach reading, is this: What have you observed about the teaching of reading? What helps children engage, and what helps build skills?

The power of Techne… What is it? Before Plato and Socrates introduced episteme- the art of knowledge- there was a term called techne. Techne means the art of DOING. Taking action. Not just thinking and soaking in all the books, podcasts, and seminars you can but actually going out and taking action! It’s one of the biggest divides - knowing vs doing.
