Two hours in to #edtechweek and too many ideas to share in one post. First up … college and career readiness This morning’s fireside with NYC public schools chancellor dug deep into what school is for and how we can support teachers and students in this changing world. What does career-connected learning look like? How can we support teachers in preparing all students for college and career, especially when most teachers have spent their lives in education — not the career paths most students might be pursuing? The way NYC integrated business into public education is inspiring. At BetterLesson, we believe that how we support instructional practice and instructional leadership is also core to supporting all students in college and career readiness. #edtechweek, as always, has me excited for the future of k12

Powering Skills Intelligence with GenAI and Human Mastery to enable more equitable and cost effective workforce strategies.
Really appreciate many of the points raised by Laura Kuizin, Ed.D. in her recent piece for Inside Higher Ed. Particularly her reflection, "I was surprised to discover how many students are unaware of or undervalue their existing skills." At Talent - Workforce Transformation we find that to be true right across the workforce, no matter the age or stage of the individual in their career. Another reason why #skillsintelligence matters! #workforcetransformation

Is higher education the only path to success? This question has been debated for years, and the truth is, there is no one-size-fits-all answer. While a higher education can provide valuable skills and knowledge, it's important to recognize that it's not the only way to succeed. Every individual's journey is unique, and we all have different circumstances that shape our choices. No one should feel ostracized for choosing a different path or not having the means to pursue higher education. We should focus on creating a culture that values diverse experiences and perspectives, regardless of educational background. Let's celebrate the unique skills and talents that each individual brings to the table, instead of judging them based on their level of education. In the end, success is not defined by a degree or lack thereof, but rather by the impact we make in our communities and the world around us. Let's embrace and learn from each other's diverse backgrounds and experiences. #diversity #inclusion #education #success

Thoughts from ASU+GSV, day two... Day two saw many of the same themes as day one—notably, the need to stay human in an AI-supported world. Colleges and universities need to ensure they’re investing time in developing soft skills and motivating students to make authentic connections with others. We’re seeing the demographics of higher education continue to shift. A majority of students will not obtain a degree before the age of twenty-five. Supports for students will have to prioritize flexibility and access for working adults. Graduates of colleges and universities continue to suffer chronic under-employment - a trend that’s even more pronounced within under-represented groups. University presidents MUST do more to ensure the employability of their students. I’d personally like to see more schools make a career/experiential learning/life design leadership position a part of the president’s cabinet. The day finished with a great session with Common and his mother, Dr. Mahalia Ann Hines, on their relationship on the need to demonstrate love, respect, and empathy for others, now more than ever. Thanks to my friends at Class for the invite to their terrific reception last evening. It's always great to catch up with old colleagues.
