The recent deluge has left communities submerged, homes destroyed, and lives upended. Our hearts are heavy as we witness the devastating floods in Rio Grande do Sul, Brazil. This tragedy has deeply impacted team members, friends, and families in Brazil. Entire cities have been ravaged, with countless families losing everything in an instant. Porto Alegre, the state's capital, is facing severe shortages of electricity, gas, and water. Rio Grande do Sul will still need a long time to recover from this. Families remain displaced, and the risk of further flooding looms large with more rain to come. They need clothes, food, water, and hygiene products to survive until the situation improves. Today, we have boots on the ground in Black Mountain, NC. Our veteran-led team is integrating with local community members and partnering with organizations like Water by Women to respond to the devastation caused by Hurricane Helene by bringing clean water to those in need. Thanks to a generous donation from the Sawyer Foundation , we’ve just picked up 1,000 Sawyer Products 2-gallon gravity system water filters donated to Water by Women, flown in by private plane. These filters not only provide critical access to safe water but also greatly reduce plastic waste in communities already overwhelmed with debris and destruction. Residents are facing significant challenges—homes destroyed, lack of running water, and boil advisories while public systems are being restored. We’re not just handing out filters; we’re actively working alongside local organizations to provide training on their use and maintenance, ensuring sustainable clean water access. Each Sawyer filter can produce safe water for a group in as little as seven minutes and provides up to 100,000 gallons, enough for a small group or family. Our mission is to provide essential support to these communities on their road to recovery, helping them access safe water today and for the journey ahead. Devastating Floods in Rio Grande do Sul, Brazil: A Call for Solidarity and Support It's with a heavy heart that I share the tragic news about the catastrophic floods currently ravaging Rio Grande do Sul, the state where I was born and where ISCA's Latam Headquarters is located. This disaster has taken the lives of almost 150 people and forced nearly 620,000 from their homes, marking the highest displacement number for a single tragedy on record for Brazil. Last week's hopes for relief with lowering river levels were dashed by new rains over the weekend, exacerbating the devastation and bringing further losses to the region. Entire cities are submerged, lives have been lost, and our agriculture, the lifeblood of our economy, is in ruins. In these trying times, our thoughts and prayers are with all affected. As we witness the resilience and courage of our community, let's come together to support those in need. Every bit of help counts, whether through donations, volunteering, or spreading awareness.
