At what point do we as providers stop using dated research as a shield for continuously using strategies that the autism community has labeled as emotionally neglectful? At what point do we as providers listen to the autism community’s feelings about our practices, self reflect if we are engaging in strategies that are harmful (even if we may not have realized it), and alter our interventions? At what point does truly compassionate care become the norm in our field?
