📚 In BC, in addition to MD, NP and Midwifery prescribers, there have been recent regulatory changes to enable pharmacist and nurse prescribing. Increasing access to care is a big part of the why. As we look to improve access to care and quality related to medication practices, including appropriateness of prescribing it is important to look at interprofessional strategies. I’ll be adding this study to my reading list this week to learn more. This statement in the Stanford news release caught my eye: “If expanding patient access while ensuring quality and safety systemwide is the goal, fixation on the question of whether NPs or other nonphysician providers should be allowed to prescribe may be less impactful than identifying and addressing deficient performance among all clinicians who prescribe, regardless of practitioner type or practice location.” The report describes various interventions with strong potential to improve prescribing, including clinician-level performance measures, prescription drug monitoring systems and initiatives aimed at ensuring better adherence to trusted guidelines such as the Beers Criteria.” Learn more👇 https://lnkd.in/gi-wtK53

I love is work. This interview is the truth. I am ok with working from a place of truth. Additionally, the corporatization of healthcare is suffocating individualized patient care. While we focus on clinical practices, we're overlooking a critical factor: the business arm of the healthcare system wields immense, often underestimated influence over patient experiences. Their decisions on staffing ratios make personalized care nearly impossible. Their budget allocations dictate precious minutes spent with each patient. In essence, boardroom choices are silently shaping bedside realities, transforming care from a human-centered practice into a race against the clock. Until we confront these systemic issues, the promise of truly individualized healthcare will remain frustratingly out of reach.

#Patient_Story: THE POWER OF COMPASSIONATE CARE #Feature_Friday: A Story of Recovery and Resilience Today, I want to share an inspiring story of a patient who reminded me why compassionate care is at the heart of nursing. #Meet_John: John, a 58-year-old man, was admitted to our unit after suffering a severe stroke. When he first arrived, John was unable to speak and had limited mobility on his right side. Understandably, he was frightened and frustrated by his sudden loss of independence. #The_Journey: From the beginning, our team focused on providing John with not only medical care but also emotional support. Here are a few key steps we took that made a significant difference in his recovery: 1. Personalized Care Plans: - We created a personalized care plan tailored to John’s specific needs, which included daily physical therapy, speech therapy, and regular check-ins with a psychologist. 2. Communication and Patience: - Understanding his frustration, we took extra time to communicate with him patiently, using gestures and visual aids to bridge the communication gap. 3. Family Involvement: - We involved John’s family in his care, providing them with resources and training to support his rehabilitation at home. 4. Small Milestones: - We celebrated small milestones, like his first steps with a walker and his first coherent words, to keep his spirits high and motivate him to keep pushing forward. #The_Outcome: After months of dedicated care and tireless effort from John, he made remarkable progress. He regained much of his speech and mobility, and his confidence soared. Watching John walk out of the hospital with a smile on his face and gratitude in his eyes was one of the most rewarding moments of my career. #LESSONS_LEARNED: - Compassionate Care Matters: Beyond medical interventions, the empathy and support we provide can significantly impact a patient’s recovery. - Team Effort: Recovery is a collaborative process involving healthcare professionals, patients, and their families. - Celebrate Progress: Recognizing and celebrating even small achievements can boost a patient’s morale and encourage continued effort. #Call_to_Action: Do you have a patient story that touched your heart?
