In recognition and celebration of #AAPIHeritageMonth, our Asian Cultures Together Employee Resource Network hosted a volunteering event for Habitat for Humanity International — an organization that we've supported for nearly three decades. "This initiative is more than just about constructing homes; it’s about building bridges of understanding, fostering connections, and sharing the rich tapestry of our Asian heritage." said Milies Yang, Customer Experience Specialist at Andersen. In addition to giving back to local communities, our Asian Cultures Together Employee Resource Network has hosted a variety of events this month for employees to celebrate Asian American and Pacific Islander Heritage Month. #AndersenWindows #AllTogether #LoveTheLifeYouSee

🤝🌟 The Symphony of Success: A Multicultural Project Tale 🤝🌟 Wednesday Wisdom: #Diversity is the one true thing we all have in common. Let's celebrate it! Today, I'm sharing a story that's a testament to the power of embracing diversity within a project team. Rewind to a project that stood out in my Rotaract Club journey, where we aimed to provide shelter and sustainable light sources to underprivileged families during the monsoon season. This initiative wasn't just about the service; it was about bringing together a team as diverse as the community we served. 🌧️💡 Our team was a mosaic of cultures, languages, and backgrounds. Each member brought their unique strengths to the table: some had tech savvy, others had grassroots mobilization skills, and some offered logistical genius. This rich tapestry of skills allowed us to not only meet but exceed our project goals. 🎯 The result? A #community uplifted, and a project that became a benchmark for what we could achieve when we unite in our differences. It was a clear message: when we pool our diverse perspectives, we create solutions that are robust, inclusive, and impactful. 🌈 Now, I'd love to hear from you. Share a time when embracing diversity led to success in your projects. How did a blend of different cultures and ideas create a winning outcome? Let's inspire each other with stories of unity in diversity. 📖 #DiversityAndInclusion #ProjectSuccess #MulticulturalTeams #RotaractClub #GlobalLeadership #projectmanagement #communityservice #rotary

Absolutely cracking read alert! I've just finished "One Life Two Cultures: African and Caribbean Elders in Scotland," and it's an absolute gem. This book beautifully weaves together the diverse experiences of this community over the past 50 years, highlighting their crucial contribution to Scottish and European society. One story that truly resonated with me is that of David Olwa. It's a tale of resilience, community, and sheer determination. David, hailing from Northern Uganda, embarked on an adventure to Scotland in 1969, driven by a simple desire to experience the famed Scottish warmth firsthand. His tale unfolds through moments of both triumph and adversity. Joining Bo'ness United, he not only secured victory for his team after a long 30 years, but also found a cherished place within the Linlithgow Royal Burgh community. However, it wasn't all sunshine and rainbows. David faced the harsh reality of prejudice, too. His experience of verbal abuse while shopping in Falkirk serves as a powerful reminder of the challenges many immigrants face, even in seemingly welcoming environments. Reading about David's journey, I'm reminded of the richness and resilience within our communities. These narratives, documented in "One Life Two Cultures," not only preserve memories but also foster understanding and celebrate cultural diversity. This compelling book, published by the Scottish Civic Trust, underscores the importance of valuing everyone's story. It aligns perfectly with the Trust's mission to champion Scotland's heritage and promote inclusiveness. It’s a reminder to recommit to building communities filled with empathy, respect, and unity. #OneLifeTwoCultures #ScottishCivicTrust #DiversityandInclusion #CommunityHeritage

Create a better world and cultivate little global citizens through your family travels. That's the mission at Our Whole Village, and we're here to help your family do it. Let's work together to raise citizens who are: 🤍 Empathetic: attuned to the needs and feelings of others and the environment. ❤️ Curious and open-minded: appreciative of other views, values, and traditions. 💜 Kind and compassionate: willing to stand up for those who are vulnerable and have the will to serve and make a difference. 💙 Fair and principled: able to reflect on what is right and act with fairness and integrity. 💛 Resourceful and persevering: ready to chase their dreams and learn from their mistakes. 💚 Mindful and self-aware: conscious of their essence and purpose and true to themselves. Perhaps the most important factor for a good global citizen is having a parent who believes in all of the above. A parent who is willing to model and nurture these values in their children, growing with them. Are you in? *International Volunteer Day 2023* ‘‘You have not really lived until you have done something for someone who can never repay you’’. - John Bunyan. Today, 5 December is observed globally as the International Volunteer Day. Volunteerism is generally considered an altruistic activity intended to improve human quality of life, which in turn produces a feeling of self-actualization, fulfillment, self-worth, and respect. A veritable tool to impact the sustainable development agenda through the mobilization and engagement of government and communities. On this commemorative day, we salute volunteers world over, whose voluntary engagements, and actions to humanity can not go unnoticed, whose hard work and selflessness have counted hugely in the lives and communities that have benefited from their dedication. Selflessness is the reason for volunteerism. Discovering the gift of volunteering in humans will only make life and the earth a better place to live and a proactive step in advancing the SDGs at a global level. Volunteers are often seen as unsung heroes, but whenever we can, let’s take the time and space to recognize their outstanding efforts publicly. Today, we celebrate them for their commitment, dedication, and hard work to humanity. Happy International Volunteer Day 2023 Olasoji Fagbola 05122023

Multifaceted Educator: Empowering Learners in Japan, Driving Reconciliation Initiatives in Australia, and Facilitating Positive Change
Title: Embracing Inclusivity: The Global Reach of Acknowledgment of Country. As the tradition of acknowledgment of country gains traction in nations like America, Canada and New Zealand, it underscores the worldwide impact of this practice, which finds its roots in Australia's pioneering spirit. As an Australian Aboriginal of the Kamilaroi tribe with mixed European heritage, I deeply understand the significance of acknowledgment of country. This tradition has been instrumental in empowering Aboriginal peoples, fostering a renewed sense of belonging and pride in culture and heritage, particularly in the face of historical injustices. However, this cultural shift has not been without its challenges. The initial introduction of acknowledgment of country sparked friction among those who felt excluded, highlighting the importance of navigating inclusivity with sensitivity and dialogue. It's crucial to understand that acknowledgment of country isn't about diminishing its importance; rather, it's about embracing a broader perspective. Australia, like other nations, boasts a rich tapestry of cultures and ancestries. Inclusive acknowledgments honor all who have contributed to our shared land, fostering unity and respect among diverse communities. When giving an acknowledgment of country, I ensure inclusivity by saying, “Before we begin, I'd like to take a moment to acknowledge the (name of tribe), who are the Traditional Custodians of the Land on which this meeting takes place. I pay my respects to their Elders past and present, acknowledging their ongoing connection to this land. I also extend my respects to all present here today and to your elders, past and present, from diverse backgrounds and cultures.” This simple acknowledgment demonstrates the richness of our collective heritage and the importance of recognizing each other's contributions. It fosters unity, respect, and understanding among all present. In essence, acknowledgment of country transcends boundaries, uniting us in honoring our shared history, heritage, and contributions. It's a testament to the enduring spirit of inclusivity and respect that binds us all together.
