Why do we need public toilets? 🚽 There are two main types of public toilets: (1) Public toilets provided by the government located in public spaces like parks. (2) Public toilets provided by businesses for customers located in shopping centres and restaurants. The importance of public toilets is more than just eliminating bodily waste. Using toilets is essential for public health and hygiene. People use toilets to: ·       Take essential medication. ·       Manage menstruation. ·       Care for young children. ·       Breastfeed infants. ·       Access to drinking water. ·       Wash hands and hygiene. As a newcomer to Australia living in Adelaide and after close observation, I noticed that the city lacks public toilets. Here I would like to refer to Dr Clara Greed's argument as she said: "Most local planning authorities do not refer to toilet provision within their plans, even though lack of provision undermines health policies, economic development, social inclusion and environmental sustainability."   The impacts of not providing public toilets can be detrimental, especially for people living with disability or health conditions. Examples of the impacts could be: ·       Reducing food consumption. ·       Reducing water intake. ·       Avoid public spaces that lack access to public toilets. This is an open discussion for anyone interested in public space facilities. 😊
