You may meet with an SLP for a variety of reasons - including laryngopharyngeal reflux. Within an ENT practice, SLP's can play an important role in the assessment of laryngopharyngeal reflux symptoms. Many SLPs value the information Restech pH testing provides. #SLPDay #speech #testbeforeyoutreat

IS it okay to call an AI a 'speech therapist' or 'speech-language pathologist' I wonder??? Interesting moniker when it implies it has an identity as a qualified person and yet provides information in text ... Meet "Jessica" - an "AI Speech Therapist" ... - I wonder when the legal teams will swing in on whether we can call AI a speech pathologist? I found one called "Dedicated Speech-Language Pathologist" on "there's an AI for that" site https://lnkd.in/gZQPDjnE (ping Caroline Bowen) #GenAIenhance - clearly speech pathologists need to be in here and figuring out this stuff as our services are costly and must provide evidence-based interventions; who says the AI must? I had a long discussion/interaction with "Dedicated Speech-Language Pathologist" about a certain technique seeing if it would tell me not only the PROS but also the CONS - and it did eventually (when asked to) reveal the critiques, limitations, and problems, but was inherently set up to dish out uncritical positives. Who is going to make sure AI 'assistants' for speech pathology information is going to be actually doing going, and not doing harm? #AIethics #SpeechPathology Speech Pathology Australia Trish Johnson Tim Kittel - GAICD Gaenor Dixon

Speech Language Pathologists (SLPs) play an important role in helping patients recover during their stay at critical illness recovery hospitals. SLPs evaluate and treat patients who have speech, communication or swallowing disorders. Our SLPs also evaluate patients to determine if they require a communication device. They may recommend traditional or high-tech devices that enhance speech and language skills. Patients with a tracheostomy tube have lost their ability to speak because of the tube. SLPs will often recommend use of a speaking valve which can give patients back their voice allowing them to once again express themselves with their family and care team. Speech-Language Pathologist. Advocating for and utilizing a strength-based approach to empower all to communicate. Follow me for posts on speech-language pathology, neurodiversity, leadership & advocacy.
Dear Speech Language Pathology Community, Let's shine a light on the incredible advocacy work that Speech Language Pathologists (SLPs) do every day. We champion the needs and rights of our clients, using a strength-based approach to therapy that focuses on their abilities and potential. But here's the catch: while we tirelessly advocate for our clients, we often find ourselves in organizations that don't apply the same approach to us. 1️⃣ Strength-Based Therapy: SLPs are experts in recognizing and nurturing the strengths of our clients. We understand that progress looks different for everyone and tailor our interventions accordingly, celebrating every small victory along the way. 2️⃣ Client-Centered Care: When a client doesn't progress as expected, we don't blame the client. Instead, we evaluate our approach, collaborate with the client and their support system, and adjust our strategies as needed. It's a dynamic process rooted in empathy and respect. 3️⃣ Lack of Reciprocity: Despite our commitment to client-centered care, many SLPs find themselves working in organizations that fail to apply the same principles to them. Micromanagement, unrealistic productivity expectations, and a lack of support can undermine our ability to provide quality care and thrive professionally. 4️⃣ Detrimental Effects of Micromanagement: Micromanaging is not just annoying; it's detrimental to a workplace. It creates unnecessary busy work for already busy professionals, erodes trust and morale, and stifles creativity and innovation. In the end, everyone loses – including the clients we're here to serve. Let's advocate not only for our clients but also for ourselves. Let's create workplaces that value and empower SLPs, recognizing their expertise, fostering growth and development, and championing a culture of trust and collaboration. Together, let's build a brighter future for our profession. #Advocacy #StrengthBasedApproach #WorkplaceWellness #SpeechLanguagePathology 💬🌟👩💼👨💼
