Great article from one of the US Navy’s top innovators: Jason Stack. He clearly and succinctly lays out how to be succeful at #disruptiveinnovation and rapidly field needed capabilities in an organization whose rhythms and processes are designed to provide incremental, low-risk advancements. Not all #innovation needs to be rapid or disruptive, but when it does, it has to be done right. We’d be wise to heed the lessons of one who did this masterfully during his time at the Office of Naval Research.

Thanks for sharing John Long, PhD what resonated with me from the article is the need for our innovation process( I shudder to use those two words together). Needs to be agile itself. No two problems need the same type/path of innovation. Many of today’s problems can be solved by simply connecting the dots across our siloed organizations, while education how cross domain/organization sharing and communication often leads to new insights and exponential value to the larger enterprise/community.

Airrow, Inc. announces it has been selected by AFWERX for a SBIR Phase I contract in the amount of $74,616.00 focused on Airrow’s Autonomous Dronehub to address the most pressing challenges in the Department of the Air Force (DAF). The Air Force Research Laboratory and AFWERX have partnered to streamline the Small Business Innovation Research (SBIR) and Small Business Technology Transfer (STTR) process by accelerating the small business experience through faster proposal to award timelines, changing the pool of potential applicants by expanding opportunities to small business and eliminating bureaucratic overhead by continually implementing process improvement changes in contract execution. The DAF began offering the Open Topic SBIR/STTR program in 2018 which expanded the range of innovations the DAF funded and now, on May, 14, 2024, Airrow will start its journey to create and provide innovative capabilities that will strengthen the national defense of the United States of America. The views expressed are those of the author and do not necessarily reflect the official policy or position of the Department of the Air Force, the Department of Defense, or the U.S. government. #military #defense #defence #militaryleak https://lnkd.in/gjHGmM3H

https://lnkd.in/e-zHsc7B The Pentagon is requesting $450 million for the Rapid Defense Experimentation Reserve (RDER) in fiscal 2025. RDER is important to continue funding at maximum levels - it is designed to reduce the timeline for acquiring/implementing innovative technology for the United States Department of Defense by two to four years compared to traditional processes. #innovation #technology

My two cents here but where is the detailed and comprehensive AoA? Ensure reliable and secure Joint battle space networks and integration - priority #1 Develop as a fall back network-optional AI-enabled warfighting technologies and capabilities - systems empowered via mission command ROE Get the air vehicles and propulsion system right with emphasis on stealth, range and growth potential (increased margins) with a long life to amortize RDTE costs. Use digital engineering with digital twins and MBSE along with Joint Simulation Environment (JSE) VV&A as part of an end-to-end digital/virtual AI-enabled innovation ecosystem (OTA Consortium to max competition for value and innovation) and value stream for continuous process improvement. Ensure sufficient upfront SWAP and cooling to handle future upgrades affordably Use open architectures with standard interfaces for plug ‘n play rapid technology insertions Consider optionally manned and unmanned Joint Service variants Optimize stealth and speed for max survivability and effectiveness in the anticipated future battle space given exponential rates of technological acceleration. Address training, readiness and maintenance affordability upfront as part of an integrated digital O&S ecosystem.

In 2013, Skunk Works announced plans for a hypersonic successor to the SR-71 Blackbird, the SR-72. The technology, powered by a turbine-based, combined-cycle propulsion system, includes a turbofan and scramjet. In 2018, an F-22-size, optionally piloted vehicle was ready for development. This aircraft could fit into a family of long-range strike systems. A Long-Range Strike Family of Systems, including a bomber, cruise missile, and hypersonic missile. Other new systems, such as a penetrating stand-in airborne electronic attack and penetrating intelligence, surveillance, and reconnaissance, were also planned. https://lnkd.in/da3WKgvm
