Because of Maryland’s history of housing segregation and other discriminatory policies, Black and Brown Marylanders are much more likely to face eviction and structural barriers that affect economic stability. One in four Black children in rental households face the threat of eviction in a typical year. Maryland can help right these wrongs by investing in eviction prevention funding and ensuring that Black and Brown families have access to this vital lifeline. Repealing NEW ORDINANCE TO CODE BOOKS ORDINANCE NO. 230401 Amending Chapter 3, Code of Ordinances, by repealing Section 3-431, “Setting Goals for Individual Contracts” and enacting in lieu thereof a new section of like number and subject matter regulating the application of numeric MBE/WBE goals on certain projects leased for development or receiving economic development incentives or tax abatement. BE IT ORDAINED BY THE COUNCIL OF KANSAS CITY: 2. Ignoring the letter from The Kcmo Fairness Board Chairman & Fairness Committee regarding Civil Rights violations ? Harrasment of minority contractors ? inadequate reporting from Kcmo CREO department ? No Disparity report for 9 years and more ? 2016 Disparity Report below: Department of I think 1.2 minority [participation] and 2.5 WBE [participation], when there was adequate availability of minority and women contractors to meet the City’s standard kind of goal of 15 [percent] and 7 [percent]. They’re diluting the opportunity for minority and women contractors when it comes through the statutory business development organizations, all of whom have different sets of rules..… There ought to be a uniform code that is incorporated in all the development agreements which people in our community never see.… There’s a disconnect. And I realize they’re trying to change some of that now but the insulting part of it was there was more money spent through statutory agencies last year for contracting activities than there were through City departments.… It’s obviously developer driven. By the time we see it the development agreement has already been executed. Caused lack of capital for Jackson County schools and libraries. Mayor Lucas and Insult to African Americans everywhere?

My #housing #politics on display.  If you want to understand them.  Simply watch the movie.   My Father’s family owns a public utility in a #smalltown in Southern Illinois.  A notorious #Republican stronghold in #Democratic #Illinois.  Everyone whose #family is from the town - grows up with the Town - regardless of whether or not they actually grew up IN it.  I did both. My first house no longer exists.  The town the #house was in, no longer exists.  It was washed into the Mississippi River in a flood. 🌊   To afford it, my parents both worked.  My Dad worked in the stockyards in East St. Louis.  My Mom was a teacher in Cahokia, Illinois in the late 60s when the Black Panthers were on site - affording her protection. I do not believe in the trafficking of human beings, the trafficking of their misery, or trafficking the ideologies of any man.  Where my housing is concerned I will apply only these labels. A #human.   An #American.  A #winner.  If I take on the label of either a Republican or a Democrat in the world of housing I am assured a loss - to be on the losing end - and a #loser some percentage of the time.  It means others are losing some percentage of the time as well.  All human beings.  Some of those human beings cannot afford to take the loss.  Their lives might even depend upon it. Where housing policy is concerned I reject the constraints of yours, theirs, and mine labels.  I will run it right down the middle.  Pulling whatever levers I need to - to win.  On behalf of America.  While others are busy squabbling over the ownership of “thoughts” and “ideologies” and “humans”.  I choose to protect the homeownership of all Americans.  Proving to you, IN PLAIN SIGHT, OVER your objections - that you can’t own people and or their “leading-thoughts”.  Just land and chattel.  Which is the same thing in Monroe County as 40 acres and cattle. You never count your money. When you’re sitting at the table.  There’ll be time enough for countin’.  When the dealin’s done. “Fundamentally, our idea is that the people who are closest to social problems have a unique expertise that we can tap into in order to solve the problems,” said Amy E. Lerman, the lab’s executive director. “When we don't include them in the conversations around how to understand the problems they face, or how to solve those problems, we're really losing this incredible, rich source of knowledge that comes from their everyday lived experience.” Lerman founded the Possibility Lab as a multidisciplinary team of policy researchers and practitioners who work with government and community partners to develop and test data-driven policy ideas that serve the public good. The Firsthand Framework project started three years ago, the brainchild of Lerman and her former Berkeley political science classmate Naomi Levy, now an associate professor at Santa Clara University and director of community engaged research at the Possibility Lab. Drawing on ideas developed in faraway war zones, and working with allied community groups and Oakland’s Department of Violence Prevention, they are conducting an ambitious exercise in grassroots democracy. It’s based on a deceptively simple question: What does it take to make you feel safe in your community? What local residents told Berkeley researchers is that individual public safety problems – gang violence or prostitution, for example — have complex dynamics, and addressing them might involve not just policing, but also addressing poverty, education, mental health and other areas. So excited for this next step for Licking County! Today myself and others from the Licking County Reentry Coalition Steering Committee completed our training to begin hosting a Citizen Circle monthly for Licking County. 🙌🙌🙌 Taken directly from ODRC: “Citizen Circles create partnerships that promote positive interactions, social support, and accountability for justice-involved individuals. Together, justice-involved individuals and Citizen Circle members embark on a journey of transformation to create fundamental changes in people, relationships, and communities. Citizen Circles provide a holistic and collective approach to individuals at any stage of their reentry. Many need assistance immediately upon release; however, at times others who have been released for a period of time may need specific assistance from the Circle, such as obtaining employment. Goals of Citizen Circles include: Reintegration: To support individuals with a seamless transition back to Ohio communities. Community Partnerships: Community members take an active role in developing partnerships to assist individuals. Accountability: Justice-involved individual’s responsibility and commitment to positive change.”
