This work won the 2024 Silver Film Lion Cannes Lions International Festival of Creativity. (film link in the comments) Café Joyeux is a coffee shop chain of an inclusive workforce dedicated to hiring individuals with intellectual and learning disabilities. This film tells the true story of a boy with Down syndrome, and powerfully advocates for inclusion. 𝐀𝐧𝐢𝐦𝐚𝐭𝐢𝐨𝐧, when used right and well, can be very powerful. Its versatility, emotional resonance, and broad accessibility make it an ideal medium for addressing sensitive topics. It can simplify complex issues, engage audiences emotionally, and foster understanding and empathy across diverse cultural backgrounds, making it a powerful tool for storytelling and social advocacy. Happy Monday everyone! While I was recently away, I stumbled across an incredible business in the heart of Lyon, Café Joyeux, that I wanted to share with you. After further research, I found that this business hires, trains, and develops careers for people, specifically within the community with mental and cognitive disabilities. Since opening in 2017, they have gained all the benefits of creating a workplace with equality and diversity as the main priorities. This has led to significant success, with them opening 19 cafés throughout Europe and their first café this year in New York! It goes to show that when a business focuses on supporting people and creating a diverse and inclusive environment, you not only achieve high levels of success but also gain many benefits, including: Engaged Employees: Inclusive environments boost morale, productivity, and retention. Stronger Resilience: Individuals navigating mental health challenges and disabilities develop exceptional resilience and problem-solving skills. Increased Empathy: A workforce that understands mental health and disabilities creates a compassionate, supportive, and positive environment where people can grow. Enhanced Creativity: Our team’s diverse mental health experiences foster unique perspectives and innovative solutions. Breaking Stigma: By hiring and supporting people with conditions, we reduce stigma and promote open, honest dialogue within society. I'd like to add one thing (that I know is implied) but I'll say it out loud. ***DON'T DRUG PEOPLE*** Every single one of these (usually) men is considered a "good guy" to somebody. I beg of you, men, because you're in a position to do something about this, don't allow this kind of behavior. Don't convince yourself that he's really good at his job so you'll look the other way. Don't say it's just part of the culture. Don't try to convince yourself or others that he's "a good guy" and couldn't possibly have done this. I have a hard time believing that not a single other person knows when a man is going to or when he does drug a person's drink. Yes, lots of advice on how to protect ourselves from this, but FFS hold each other accountable. Turn people in if necessary (yes, even your friends, family, boss, etc). If you all want the gaming industry to change (and I keep hearing so many men who say they do) then be proactive in stopping this before it happens instead of putting the burden on the rest of us to protect ourselves from it.
