✨ Excited to share that I've recently received an executive training certificate by the University of Cambridge in Circular Economy and Sustainability Strategies! 🎓 This experience has been incredibly enriching, giving me the confidence and tools to broaden my focus beyond communications and market development in sustainability, and step into creating real circular impact ✨ For the past nine years, I've been all in on sustainability 🌱, and for the last three, I've zeroed in on the circular economy ♾️, driving marketing communications, advocacy and market development for global nonprofits setting the agenda in this space. This course took me deeper into the core of circularity and sustainable business models, broadening my skills and equipping me with the tools and techniques to apply circularity in practice within businesses—really understanding what it takes to create lasting impact ### A Few Highlights: 1. **Natural Capital & Sustainability**: We explored the vital role of natural capital, how resource degradation affects us all, and why waste management is non-negotiable for a sustainable future. 2. **Circular Business Models**: We looked at how shifting from traditional to circular business models isn’t just a smart move—it’s essential for staying competitive and caring for the planet. 3. **Change Management**: It’s all about getting everyone on board. Effective change management and stakeholder engagement are key to making sustainability work at every level. 4. **Innovation with Impact**: Sustainability isn’t just about what we create—it’s about how we think, plan, and execute. The #ReSOLVE framework and other tools we learned are game-changers. This training has reinvigorated my passion and sharpened my skills, making me even more ready to drive meaningful change in my work. Firstly, the content presented in Module 1 to Module 6 was very informative and bridge the gap between many facets of the world of sustainability. What stood out for me was the preferred definition of sustainability by Dr. Soufani as cited “Sustainability meets the needs of the present without compromising the ability of future generations to meet their own needs.” This definition did set the tone for exploration on what sustainability means to me individually, organizationally, and holistically. Secondly, was the interdependencies and interconnections between Environmental, Society and Economy and the formation of their respective purposes to create equilibrium in our ecosystem. It is also worth highlighting the baseline for measuring sustainable goals via the consideration of the Triple Bottom Line (TBL) Framework which encompasses the 3Ps (People, Planet, Profits). Thirdly, the distinction between ESG and SDG and how specific goals are intertwined collectively to achieve Sustainability goals. As well the importance of Financial Reporting in sustainability and the use of the different statements such as: ·      Income Statement ·      Balance Sheet ·      Cash Flow Statement Overall, the course program has addressed many of the underlining concerns surrounding sustainability and circular economy. In 2019 humans used up nature's resource budget for the entire year by July 29th (the earliest point in the past 20 years). By 2030 our demand will require more than two planets worth of natural resources. The future MUST be circular and it's been a privilege to learn more about how we can make it so with other leaders from around the world in the Cambridge Executive Program; Circular Economy and Sustainability Strategies.   Circular economy models can design out waste pollution, keep products and materials in use and regenerate natural systems. There's a new vocabulary we can embrace - re-use/ share/ recycle/ remanufacture/ repair. There are many companies and people to look to for inspiration (ping me if you want my list!). This transformation is both an economic imperative and a moral one. The best part of this experience was being surrounded by people from all industries and countries who were saying 'What can I do?' Every job can be a sustainability job.

I recently completed a course on Circular Economy and Sustainability Strategies at the University of Cambridge Business School. The experience was incredibly insightful, bringing together practitioners from various sectors to demonstrate our progress towards circularity and strategies for capturing value within the circular economy. Throughout the course we explored innovative approaches to resource management, highlighted the importance of collaboration across industries, and provided practical frameworks for implementing sustainable practices. The course included case studies and interactive discussions, which allowed us to examine the challenges and opportunities associated with transitioning to a circular economy model. Given my background as a practitioner within the civil society sector, understanding strategies for advancing sustainable and circular business models was particularly important.
