Solar Energy Professional | NFPA 70E | OSHA 30 | OSHA 10 | National Electric Code Certified | SMA Central Inverter Troubleshooting | Qualified Electrical Worker
There is a serious need for quality control these days! Not to mention making sure the correct part has been delivered before scheduling a crew to come out to do the work. At a previous job I had before moving into solar, we would double and sometimes triple check before we packaged up products and made sure it was the correct part that needed to be shipped out. This saves money in several areas. 1) Having to reship a product. 2) Paying a tech to sit in a hotel while the correct part are shipped again 3) Down time which could be generating income for your company and the ones who hired you to keep something running. 4) Having to reschedule field techs or third parties to correct the issue. All you had to do was simply check it to begin with.

I had 5 years at operation section of Riffa Power Station as Shift Charge Engineer, below some observations and recommendations that can help whom concern, applicable on most operation facilities: 1- Confidence is really making the difference, an engineer with low level of confidence cannot survive long time as shift in charge as this position requires immediate decisions and sometimes at emergencies! 2- Personality, shift charge engineer leads group of technicians and operators and has to be their father regardless of the ages. It is normal and happening that you help someone older than you +10 in solving personal issues in order to have him awake, focus and ready for you all the time. 3- Trust your team but do not sign on any Safety Document until you check all relevant points by yourself. 4- Final decisions are yours, take them after discussion with your team, remember that you are the most authorized member in the team, you will be in the face at any abnormal case! 5- Standard Operation Procedures (SOP) has to be in your mind all the time, read it frequently and refer to them at any vague case. 6- OEM Manual is your technical reference, do not rely on any other document! 7- Around 40% of your duty time is standby, use it efficiently in reading, learning and understanding every part in your facilities.

🔍 What happens if issues are found during the assessment? (Engineer's Perspective) 🛠️ As an engineer, discovering issues during a site visit triggers a tailored response based on their nature and severity. 🚧 If issues are minor and easily fixable, the engineer may address them on the spot or provide actionable recommendations. For instance, if equipment malfunctions, repairs or upgrades may be suggested for enhanced performance. 🛠️💡 However, serious or safety-related issues demand immediate attention. The engineer may take swift actions like shutting down equipment or implementing temporary fixes to avert further damage or danger. ⚠️🚨 In complex cases, further investigations or tests may be necessary. Collaborating with other engineers, experts, or stakeholders helps identify the root cause and formulate the best solution. 🤝🔍 Ultimately, the engineer's mission is timely and effective issue resolution, ensuring safety and optimal functionality of assessed systems or equipment. 🚀👷♂️ #PropertyConditionAssessment #SiteAssessment #PropertyManagement #PropertyDueDiligence #EngineeringSolutions #CRE

Let’s discuss the importance of Method of Procedures (MOP) or Scope of Work (SOW). I've seen senior techs make mistakes because they have the mentality of "I've done this a thousand times." That mentality is what gets people hurt and where mistakes happen. Not every job is the same. One thing I've learned in this industry is to respect voltage, or it can become dangerous. I verify the MOP and I verify the setup. It only takes a few minutes instead of hours or, worse, jeopardizing your safety. I've seen the most senior techs make basic mistakes like opening the output first on a "make before break" or forgetting to plug in connections or torque them correctly when bringing units back online, or overlooking something that should have been caught. Lets get rid of the mentallity of, “I’ve done this a thousand times.” A MOP or SOW is there because it was verified by multiple sources. Just remember though as a field service tech it’s also your job to do a final verification of the MOP.
