This issue affects a very, very small segment of the population of America, yet it speaks to the heart of who we are as a society. On one hand, providing the essentials of life to everyone is a critical component of compassion while, on the other hand, the cost burden is real and must be paid by someone. This article, sheds some light on the subject.

This tool has capital estimates for starting a community violence program in various cities, https://lnkd.in/g9GtwVDt. Atlanta for example has an estimated 32 million annual budget. That may seem high, but the tool has what seems to me reasonable itemized parts of the budget. So likely cities already have infrastructure they can use to reduce the cost. For example, this is not just violence interrupters, but they also suggest social workers (no reason to me why you can't use already existing social work infrastructure). 17 million in the Atlanta budget is for the services themselves (housing assistance can be expensive). #violence #community #socialwork

#DidYouKnow that the L.A. Department of Public Health found that at least 2,201 unhoused individuals had died on the streets in the L.A. area in 2021? The Los Angeles Workers Center (LAWCN) [tag] recently published a concept paper that revealed the City has more than 46,000 people living on the streets and L.A. County has nearly 76,000. Housing is a #humanright, and the first step to support and assistance is awareness. At Bet Tzedek, we advocate for families and individuals to ensure access to stable, habitable, and affordable housing. By providing education, representation, and pathways to legal resources, we help tenants and homeowners remain housed and assist those who are experiencing homelessness. #DidYouKow that a recent study found that support for returning citizens can be greatly impacted by parole officers, family, and our community? Parole officers can be a vital part of our returning citizens’ journey as their support would be encouraging and promote a successful reentry journey. Family and community support can become strengthened and strained over time, but it is imperative that the support from family and parole officers for our returning citizens does not easily weaken over time. continuous support from all parties, especially those closest to returning citizens. Reentry and social services also promote a successful reentry journey for returning citizens though continuous support, but connection, empathy, and reducing stigmatization are imperative for such results. Homelessness is a sign of incompetent governance. The Government has a fairly short list of responsibility. The Constitution states the government is to promote and provide for the general welfare, coin money and determine its value, and regulate commerce. I would call this an epic fail. Instead of promoting, the government obstructs. It doesn’t provide anything but charges for everything. Bitcoin and crypto currency are devaluing the U.S. dollar by the day. The government opts to regulate people and not the economy: credit reporting companies, banks, or other financial institutions. You can’t drive a car, work, own a gun, fish, or braid hair without a lisence. This isn’t the Land of the free, if every act requires permission. We aren’t the best country in the world, we have the biggest ego. Our leaders aren’t great or even intelligent, corporations are inhumane, and it’s always profit over people. Lisense (v) to grant permission Liberty (n) The condition of being free from confinement, servitude, or forced labor. The condition of being free from oppressive restriction or control by a government or other power. A right to engage in certain actions without control or interference by a government or other power.

📢 Big news for housing justice: We are proud to have funded efforts to introduce a Right to Counsel program in Kansas City, ensuring that more residents have access to legal representation during eviction proceedings — ultimately helping more people stay housed and healthy. With the federal government now making resources available to expand these vital programs, we are optimistic that more communities will receive the support they need — especially as states like Missouri are making eviction moratoriums illegal. In 2023, Curandi supported Oregon's SB 1074, which would have "authorized a two-year demonstration project in two counties to test whether expanding the compensable services provided by community health workers can improve outcomes for low-income families and children at risk of entering the foster care system." The bill was not passed despite bipartisan support, further hindering the innovation required to improve the local human and social services community. Learn more about why this matters, and what Curandi is doing at the forefront to improve the ability of human and social services to achieve better outcomes, on our blog. https://lnkd.in/gFZJsty8
