Many in the mentorship have observed that the musical theater program is attracting students away from choir. Kids seem more invested in musical theater, leaving choir less populated. So, crazy idea: what if we start arranging music in public domain and just...make it funky? Like Funky Beethoven? R&B Mozart? Lo-Fi John Philip Sousa? Metal Bach? 😂😂😂 But seriously... I know, I know, I know, this has already been happening. I mean, look at most of the early jazz standards out there...a good chunk of them are contrafacts of existing works (mostly musicals), but...jazzy. Or EDM classical music — that's a big one. I think I will be looking into this more. There are hundreds, thousands of public domain pieces out there that could get new life breathe new life into this music. Leadership Lessons from a Maestro Ever thought how a musical score played by so many different musicians (each a virtuoso in their own right), gets blended into a flawlessly flowing melody of sheer perfection. Have you ever focused on how engrossed every single musician is in performing their own role and understand their contribution to the overall score? Ofcourse this would take years, months, days and hours of practice, because it is a widely understood fact that there is zero room for error. But in all this, comes the Maestro. It takes a lot of knowledge, experience and diligence to become a Maestro. And so, it is worth extracting some lessons of leadership from merely what we see at that concert. Next time you watch a symphony orchestra play, just focus on what the Maestro does.
