First-Day Experience: Make It Special Warm Welcome: Ensure the new hire’s workspace is ready with everything they need, including a personalized desk setup. Have a welcome note and a small gift waiting for them. Buddy System: Assign a buddy or mentor who can guide the new hire through the initial days, answer questions, and provide social support. Interactive Orientation: Start with an engaging and interactive orientation session that goes beyond company policies. Incorporate fun activities, team introductions, and an overview of the company culture.

There are a lot of employees who don't want to return to working onsite. However, many companies are insisting. As a frontline leader, it can be hard to find yourself stuck in the middle. When you can't do what you want, do what you can. For many, that may mean finding ways to get your team engaged in the office. Start from a place of empathy, identify the unmet need, and try to address that. We will not be able to make everyone happy all the time, but let them see you trying. Here are some ways to help make the return to work a little more bearable for your team. - Provide lunch - Make introductions to higher-ups onsite - Provide shadowing opportunities - Meet face to face - Host special events, like bring your dog to work day - Have working sessions - Brag about your team where they can hear you - Give them a raise or bonus for their engagement - Play team building games - Sit with them, so they know you're in it together Most importantly, listen to what they have to say. Listen closely. They will tell you what they need.
