October isn’t just another month for us here at Rarekind. It’s a time to recognise National Safety Month and Mental Health Month. While we prioritise these important topics year-round, this month allows us to shine a light on the vital role that physical safety and mental health play in our workplaces and communities. So, what am I looking forward to this month? ☕ Rarekind Annual Safe-Tea chat: An opportunity to connect in our office over a cuppa and biccies, with this year’s focus on compliance and its role in managing safety. 🍏 Mental Health Awareness Training: Learning how to spot the signs of poor mental health and how to navigate conversations about mental well-being. 📝 Safety Bingo (kudos to Paris Barclay for bringing a fun twist to safety): Encouraging our teams to prioritise not just our candidates and clients but also their own well-being and that of each other. How is your team connecting this month?

Grateful to have the opportunity to connect with practitioners, researchers and leaders in mental health in higher education spaces at the Advance HE’s Mental Wellbeing in HE Conference 2024. Flexibility, agility and resilience have been identified as some of the most important skills for the Future of Work 2024 by the World Economic Forum. How can we embed learning opportunities to grow resilience in young people so they can navigate this increasingly complex world? Furthermore, how can we impact the systems that reproduce systemic margenialisation that impact individuals ability to be resilient?

At GFIE, we recognise the profound impact that mental health has on every aspect of our lives, including our careers. This Mental Health Awareness Week, we want to reaffirm our dedication to fostering a supportive environment for all individuals, especially those who face unique challenges. Our mission is to provide job opportunities within the Civil Service to people with convictions, veterans and their spouses, carers, and care leavers. We understand that having experience of these different backgrounds can potentially have an impact on mental health, whether that’s navigating life after a custodial or community sentence, the transition from military to civilian life, or the pressure of care giving responsibilities. Here's how GFIE supports mental health: Inclusive Opportunities: By offering meaningful employment, we hope to enable people to regain a sense of purpose and identity, which are crucial for mental well being. Supportive Community: Our team is committed to creating an inclusive and understanding workplace culture where everyone feels valued and supported, not only within our team but with those we work with too Access to Resources: We provide access to mental health resources and services to ensure the people we work with have the support they need. As we celebrate Mental Health Awareness Week, we encourage everyone to join us in promoting mental health awareness and breaking the stigma. Together, we can continue the conversation about what barriers to good mental health might look like and aim to break these down one by one. What does a good Mental Health Support in the Workplace mean to you, and do you know where to access support for any Mental Health concerns if needed?

It's no secret – the world can be demanding. Between professional goals and personal commitments, it's easy to let self-care fall by the wayside. But here's the thing: prioritizing your well-being isn't selfish, it's essential. Just recently, I took a much-needed break to reconnect with nature. The fresh air, the quiet moments – it all served as a powerful reminder of the importance of taking time for yourself. Coming back, I feel recharged, focused, and even more passionate about the work I do. That's the magic of self-care – it allows you to show up as your best self, both personally and professionally. Feeling fortunate to work in a field that fuels my passion every day. It makes prioritizing self-care even more important – because when I'm at my best, I can truly contribute my best. #selfcare #wellbeing #worklifebalance #grateful
The team is back in the office, buzzing with renewed energy after a much-needed escape into the great outdoors! Disconnecting and reconnecting with nature truly has a restorative power, and we're feeling refreshed and ready to tackle this short week. To kick things off, we're thrilled to have started our workweek by hosting a Youth Mental Health First Aid course for Savor Lining. Equipping adults that work with youth with the knowledge and tools to support their mental well-being is a cause we deeply care about. #selfcare #mentalhealthawareness #mentalhealthliteracy #SavorLining #youthmentalhealthfirstaid #mentalhealthfirstaid

This week has been mental health awareness week. I have the privilege to host another talk internally at Aston Martin with a great group of people, some long standing members, apprentices, interns and production. Some of the key takeaways from the session: You are never too experienced to need help or have the feeling of imposter syndrome. Just checking in on someone and genuinely asking how they are doing can help wonders. Getting off your desk at work and going to have lunch or a walk can greatly assist your mental wellbeing through the day. Not everyone's experiences are the same and there is no single cure to mental health. However there are some items that have shown to help, the theme this week was movement, that doesn't mean that you need to run a marathon, but to remember to get up and move around, take a walk now that we are getting nicer weather again, if in the office go and talk to the person at another desk rather than pick up that video call. We have learnt to be very sedentary with the power of technology at our finger tips. As always remember to be kind to yourself and to love one another, you never know when you may need that love back.

If you've been having questions on journaling, this is the opportunity to get them answered, not just by anyone, but by an experienced professional in the field of mental health - Ms. Mercy Wanza. Investing in yourself is one the best decisions you can make. Looking forward to a great session of learning, unlearning, and relearning!

Happy New Month! I'm sure most of us have heard the importance of journaling, especially for our mental well-being. Unfortunately, we don't get to hear the WHAT & HOW. What exactly is journaling and how do we actually start? Is there a specific format? Do we have to do it on a daily basis? What if I live with people who don't respect my privacy and are itching to go through my journal? What if I don't have time to do it consistently? All these questions and much more will be discussed during today's live chat by an experienced occupational therapist with a knack in mental health. Fun fact: She's a consultant at Necessio Wellness Community so you can be sure to have an amazing session filled with fun and lots of learning. #otmonth2024 #journaling #how #why
