61% of surveyed family offices are planning to increase their exposure in Private Credit according to the Hedgeweek Family Office Survey in 2024 (see below). It still amazes me that Wall Street will finance an investment firm's "new fund" based on its 100% follow-on investor track record, with, say, a 15% exit rate and maybe 2-3% of invested brands clearing a profit on invested capital. In any other professional job function, this would get you fired. Not for the wizards of finance. If staring at tons of P&Ls (brought to you by much more experienced folks) now qualifies you to be a lead investor, then nothing has really changed in our oversupplied financial markets. Incompetence and tribal affiliation have never been so well rewarded. Early-stage investing - the profession where failure is simply impossible.
