Benefits of Speech and Occupational Therapists Working Together: There are many great benefits of occupational and speech therapists working together. The multi-disciplinary approach is one of the most effective ways to see results. This approach encompasses therapy from a variety of viewpoints. During therapy, the patient can get exposure to sensory or motor activities while also working on language. For a speech pathologist, the main focus of therapy is language but sensory breaks can be built into make therapy more fun and interactive. This way, many goals can be targeted and the child is exposed to both language and sensory/motor concerns. For an occupational therapist, while working on motor planning, speech commands and cues are incorporated into treatment as well so that the child is getting language exposure outside of speech therapy. Working hand in hand helps increase the child’s exposure to both types of therapy, making the experience holistic and more successful. #occupationaltherapy #occupationaltherapist #occupationaltherapystudent #occupationaltherapyforkids #occupationaltherapyforchildren #speechtherapy #speechtherapist #speechlanguagepathology #speechlanguagepathologist #speechandlanguage #specialneeds #specialneedsparenting

Early intervention is so incredibly important. When we can intervene at a time period when there is rapid brain growth, we can build brain connections that will make exponential change for the future.
Early intervention, or receiving services like speech and occupational therapy before age 3, has been linked to greater improvements in early skill mastery and later abilities. The earlier children can receive assessment, support for areas of difficulty, and progress monitoring, the better their outcomes will be—especially in language. That’s why the jump start that early intervention provides is important.

✨ ✨ ✨If your child works with an occupational therapy…or a feeding therapist…or a speech therapist…or a physical therapist - start talking with them now. I’ve always loved collaborating with other professionals. So whenever a mom asks me for ideas on how her child can be more successful at school, I am thrilled. I love writing letters with specific strategies, that I know will help both the teacher and the child this year. ✏️ If you are working with a therapist every single week, they know your child pretty well. And I bet you they have some ideas on how your child can be set up to succeed in the classroom this year. ⏰ But don’t wait till the last minute to ask them. In my opinion, you want to get this ready for back-to-school night, or your first 1:1 meeting with your teacher. That way, your child gets the best chance at a great start. Chances are, there are other parents asking therapists to help with this too. So you want to make sure you give your therapist enough time to sit down, really think about it, and write you a great letter. Have you done this yet? Or still need to? Let me know below! ‼️This post/video is intended for informational and educational purposes only and is not/should not be considered occupational therapy or medical advice. Occupational Therapy Career Close-Up On a personal note....Chris, our guest, is my niece-in-law 😍 I had the privilege of watching her journey play out. And when, in October, she shared some surprises as a new OT in a hospital setting, I thought - my listeners and teens need to hear this! Highlights: -Job shadowing is critical for deciding between speech therapy, physical therapy, and occupational therapy. -OT school prerequisites vary, so students must research the requirements for each school they are considering. -OT doctoral programs are very intensive three-year programs with no summers off. -Finding a work-life balance and not taking work home is an adjustment for new occupational therapists. https://buff.ly/3PZwpqb

Working as a team is crucial when it comes to supporting children and young people in reaching their goals. Children's development in Occupational Therapy involves a collaborative approach which can have a positive impact. By working as a team, we allow individuals to have support in all areas from a range of different people; their needs are being met and holistic approaches are used. Having everyone involved means that we identify strengths and needs as we go through the process and can adapt as needed. Consistency is needed across settings to achieve goals so by having open communication, we are also trying to maintain this consistency. Children and young people with Special Educational Needs and Disabilities learn from watching as well as ‘doing’, it’s beneficial as they can observe people in different environments not just in one setting. Everyone needs to celebrate our children and young people, by having this team approach, this is possible! Develop your confidence as an Occupational Therapist and join a supportive network. 💻 https://lnkd.in/ewhKJEtW 📩 [email protected] ☎️ 020 3538 8337 #OccupationalTherapists #OccupationalTherapyJobs #PrivatePractice

Pediatric occupational therapists play a vital role in helping children achieve functional tasks, from self-care to learning and day-to-day activities. One area where occupational therapists can work with children and families to facilitate function and ability is in riding a bicycle. With their expertise, children can learn the necessary skills and techniques to confidently ride a bike, which can improve their overall physical and mental well-being. When occupational therapy professionals work with children to achieve the functional task of riding a bicycle, they can help kids achieve independence with areas that are needed for bicycle riding: Core strength Motor planning Balance Sequencing Postural praxis Upper body/lower body disassociation Motivation Body awareness Visual convergence Visual scanning Coordination
