As we prepare for another busy hurricane season — expected to be one of the most active in years — we're grateful to our partner #TruistFoundation for supporting our critical disaster preparedness, relief and recovery work.

You know, you can't just start figuring things out in the midst of a disaster. You've got to really be prepared. And of late, we got this beautiful grant from Truist, $5,000, 000 to help us with community adaptation. And what that's all about is, you know, we are seeing the same communities getting clobbered over and over again with hurricanes and tornadoes and floods. And some of these communities are vulnerable communities that have socioeconomic challenges. And we are adapting our mission to be able to serve them in in other ways than we have before, and we're forging partnerships so that we can deal with issues like housing, hunger and health.

Tropical Storm Ernesto is battering Puerto Rico. Team Rubicon is there.
Back in September 2017, Hurricane Maria struck Puerto Rico. In the wake of the devastation, Team Rubicon rebuilt over 500 roofs to the highest standards. This #investment was made possible by supporters like GAF and the Steven & Alexandra Cohen Foundation, along with a strong partnership with #FEMA, St Vincent dePaul, and contractors throughout the island. In a year, the team built over 500 hurricane rated roofs that keep families dry and protected from the storms year after year. Watch to see how we did it.
As a “#for_impact” organization, TR is dedicated to expressing gratitude to those who invest in our mission. Unlike simply donating, investing signifies a long-term commitment where the funds continue to make a positive impact into the future.
#INVESTMENT: Our volunteers keep enhancing their skills and abilities, returning each year to help those in need. We now have over 170,000.
#INVESTMENT: Our services transform lives by reducing stress, maintaining value, facilitating a quicker return to normalcy, and building resilience for future challenges. Children rest safely in a rebuilt home. Families can concentrate on what matters when fallen trees are cleared. Homes do not become mold-infested when they are properly cleaned out.
Be a part of something big and lasting. Support or volunteer! www.teamrubiconusa.org

Spotlight on: AVANCE-Houston, Inc. Hurricane Beryl has left only 6 of AVANCE's 18 centers with power. Many of their 2000 families, including those in Head Start/Early Head Start, and 400 employees are without basic utilities during this period of extreme heat. Despite outages, disrupted communications, and water, ice and food distribution challenges, the AVANCE team, led by Executive Director Luz Flores, is demonstrating their typical resilience, skills, and dedication. They continue to work from home while crisis teams assess the situation.
NHSA is also stepping in with support, providing resources and funds from NHSA’s Disaster Relief Fund which is designated to help Head Start programs, employees, and families recover from natural disasters.
