From coast to coast, Red Cross disaster teams are on the move! 📍In Gulf Coast states, volunteers are mobilizing teams and preparing supplies for the arrival of Hurricane Francine. The storm is expected to strengthen before it makes landfall in Louisiana. 📍 Out West, massive wildfires fueled by extreme temperatures continue to burn, forcing tens of thousands of people from their homes. Local disaster teams are caring for people in shelters and encouraging everyone to heed evacuation orders and prepare for prolonged power outages. How can you help? The best way to support our disaster relief efforts is to donate, which enables us to be on the ground for these raging wildfires, Francine, and other extreme weather events happening across the country now and in the future. Whatever you give today will help people affected by disasters big and small: https://rdcrss.org/3AX4Edj

Our disaster teams are working quickly to mobilize, preparing dozens of shelters and moving truckloads of relief supplies in Florida and Georgia before Hurricane Helene makes landfall. Helene is expected to be one of the fastest intensifying hurricanes on record to impact the Florida Panhandle, bringing up to 120 mph winds, a 15-foot storm surge, and severe inlet flash flooding. How to Prepare: If you’re in the path of the storm, please heed evacuation orders and plan how you will stay safe. This should include gathering emergency supplies, staying informed with local alerts, and preparing for power outages. How You Can Help: People rely on us for shelter, food and other assistance when disasters strike. Thanks to generous donors who power our work every day, we’re able to mobilize teams and resources quickly to disaster-impacted areas and help people recover. Donate today to enable us to help those who need our help whenever and wherever disasters strike: https://rdcrss.org/3MWmZdn #Helene

Hurricane Helene caused unprecedented, widespread damage across southeastern United States, leaving millions without power and a rising death toll. While Baker Hughes can report that our employees and operations have been spared from major damage, communities in Florida, North Carolina, South Carolina, Tennessee, Georgia, and Virginia are dealing with destruction. The hurricane caused significant damage to infrastructure, including major interstates, utilities and communications. To support and care for the people and communities impacted by this crisis, the Baker Hughes Foundation issued a $25,000 disaster relief grant to All Hands and Hearts (AHAH), a volunteer-powered relief agency committed to addressing the immediate and long-term needs of global communities impacted by disasters. Spotlight on: AVANCE-Houston, Inc. Hurricane Beryl has left only 6 of AVANCE's 18 centers with power. Many of their 2000 families, including those in Head Start/Early Head Start, and 400 employees are without basic utilities during this period of extreme heat. Despite outages, disrupted communications, and water, ice and food distribution challenges, the AVANCE team, led by Executive Director Luz Flores, is demonstrating their typical resilience, skills, and dedication. They continue to work from home while crisis teams assess the situation. NHSA is also stepping in with support, providing resources and funds from NHSA’s Disaster Relief Fund which is designated to help Head Start programs, employees, and families recover from natural disasters. IMPORTANT REMINDERS We are five days out from a major disaster across the Texas Gulf Coast. As power begins to come back on, please know the following: * Wharton County still has over 4,000 power outages. *Power being restored doesn't mean it is connected to houses. Those lines might be down. *On a 1.0 scale, Wharton County's SOCIAL VULNERABILITY INDEX is high, with even higher numbers for Cities of Wharton and El Campo (See the image). Our highest demographics are senior adults and children. That means we are more highly impacted during a disaster. *THIS IS A DISASTER. The damage is not "just vegetative" and we have humanitarian needs. It is also not "just" in areas previously affected by flooding disasters. We have small isolated communities and residences in the county and need to get eyes on them and resources to them. People have damaged cars, inability to get gas and inability to get to cooling centers and mass feeding locations. *It is possible to still have disaster fatalities this far out. A heat wave is the greatest contributing factor to fatalities after a disaster. *If your agency serves home health patients or families with children, please contact us to document unmet needs. *We need help getting damage documented in iSTAT for survivors who can't do it themselves. Please help someone if you are able and support the local non-profits responding to this disaster. In the face of uncertainty and the storms affecting so many in the Southeast, we want you to know you’re not alone. It’s natural to feel anxious and overwhelmed, but together, we can recover—physically, emotionally, and mentally. If you’re in the path of the hurricane or recovering, here are resources to support you through this time. For those who want to help, there are ways to make a difference from wherever you are: American Red Cross: Providing emergency shelters and essential supplies. Feeding America: Supporting food banks to help families in need. GlobalGiving Hurricane Relief Fund: Offering immediate aid and long-term recovery support. World Central Kitchen: Delivering hot meals in disaster areas. Team Rubicon: Veterans helping with disaster relief efforts on the ground. Take care of yourselves, check on your neighbors, and know that recovery takes time—but we’ll get through this together. Stay safe.
