I’m honored to be part of the @txst community of researchers discussing health research at #thrcHSS. Join me and @THRCtxst on March 1st to learn more about our research focused on a current project titled, "The Predictive Factors of Hospital Bankruptcy: A Longitudinal Analysis", completed with colleagues Zo Ramamonjiarivelo, Clemens Scott Kruse, Lawrence Fulton, Ram Shanmugam, Arvind Sharma, and Aleksander Tomic. This study develops an explanatory and predictive machine learning logistic model for hospital bankruptcy utilizing eight financial and hospital-level variables (drawing from 3,091 hospitals spanning 2008-2021). The model performs better than all known bankruptcy models (e.g., Altman, Ohlson, Zmijewski) within the short term acute care hospital setting. This robust tool may prove useful to healthcare leaders to more accurately assess and predict financial distress and bankruptcy in their own institutions in the future. #txstsoha #txsthealth #txstchp

The National Institutes of Health has proposed a new policy requiring entities that receive licenses from the NIH to certain taxpayer-funded inventions to submit Access Plans for ensuring broader patient access to the products embodying such inventions. The proposed policy may have a chilling effect on the licensing of NIH-owned inventions conceived by Intramural Research Program investigators and may reduce the desirability of IRP collaboration. https://ow.ly/SwKS50S1UP8 #healthcare #intellectualproperty #NIH
