Fostering radical collaboration to solve complex problems. Won't stop until there's #HealthforAll. | CEO @ Community Health Impact Coalition (CHIC) & Asst. Prof @ Mount Sinai Med
Large-scale social change is a team sport, and Community Health Impact Coalition members are an all-star lineup.
Imagine a world where every person has access to a professional health worker on their doorstep - salaried, skilled, supervised, and equipped to save lives. That's the world CHIC is creating.
Our playbook? Uniting thousands of passionate players - from community health workers to advocates to cutting-edge researchers - all focused on making professional community health workers the norm worldwide.
The #RouxPrize celebrates our collective achievement and the contributions every player on our team ( 👀 the comments!)
Together, we've changed the rules of the game. We've secured guidelines for fair treatment of health workers, unlocked crucial funding, and shaped life-saving policies.
This award isn't just about our past achievements - it's about our future potential. It proves that when we choose #teamwork over competition, there's no limit to the lives we can improve and save.
Come join our team - in this game, we all win.
Registered Dietitians in the community (not in acute/hospital settings) are definitely included in this group.
The complex cases with multiple illnesses I have seen in primary and community care require more time, attention and expertise than currently recognized by the system (or compensated for).
Each healthcare provider is part of a TEAM to support the best outcomes for a patient. We are capable of so much, yet benched by lack of funding (wages and staffed positions).
The huge compensation divide between a few professions and the rest of the team does not reflect the TEAM mentality or important work done by each.
Advocating for healthcare professionals in community and primary care is essential to support Canadians' health so that they might possibly avoid a visit to acute/hospital care.
"An ounce of prevention is worth a pound of cure."
Let's change the system to put more value in each expertise in community and team settings. Ask the government to focus more funding on day-to-day life/care, not just emergency care.

Social researcher and public policy champion, always seeking new ways to advance equitable, livable places.
Experienced leader in nonprofit, post-secondary and media sectors.
The salary gap between those who work in community sector and those in the public sector is carefully documented here, across 91 pages with ten provincial organizations and hundreds of agencies identifying compensation as their top issue around recruitment and retention. Nonprofits regularly try to straddle stagnant funding and the need to offer livable wages to their workers. No surprise, once again, women (84% of respondents) and racialized groups are the ones bearing the brunt of this failure. #EmploymentEquity is needed across sectors. Salary recommendations included here too.
