I was caught off guard by my team. For some reason, I had the wrong date in mind. But it was my incredible team - Vidhi Singhvi , Shivangini, Komal, and the others - who reminded me that we’ve hit a huge milestone: one year in our Mumbai HQ. This moment snuck up on us, and the truth is, we weren’t fully prepared for it. But here’s the thing - when you have a team of F&B enthusiasts who live and breathe this industry, you don’t need months of preparation. Even with last-minute arrangements, they managed to fit in some great drinks and create a memorable evening. We didn’t have a grand spread, but what we did have was a team that stayed true to their passion. It wasn’t about perfection; it was about the effort and enthusiasm everyone brought to the table. And that’s when it hit me: you can buy a space, but it takes people to turn it into a home. At Connekting Dots India, our office isn’t just a workspace - we call it our den. It’s the heart of our operations, a place where ideas are born, connections are forged, and where we feel like we truly belong. It’s the people that make it what it is. We celebrated, not with grand fanfare, but with good food, a champagne pop, and some time to just connect with each other. That evening we didn't discuss work but life. (Managing a massive clientele is a good problem to have!) 2️⃣ Pitch Perfect: We bragged (deservedly so!) about crafting some seriously impressive pitches for brands like Star Plus, TATA Neu, Akasa Air & Prime Video. 3️⃣ Website Relaunch: We unveiled our brand new website – clean, minimal, and designed with our ideal clients in mind. 4️⃣ Hiring for Culture Fit: We talked about our new, multi-stage hiring process to bring in people who share our company's culture. 5️⃣ Expanding Operations: Expanding to new horizons with the new Delhi team and their awesome new office! 6️⃣ Learning from Setbacks: We acknowledged missed pitches and discussed how we can come back even stronger next time. 7️⃣ Tracking Progress: Introduced a new, simplified and transparent progress-tracking system for everyone! 8️⃣ Setting Goals: We finished the town hall by setting realistic goals for 24-25. Effective communication fosters employee engagement, which directly impacts productivity and profitability. Town halls, in my opinion, are crucial for companies to reflect, realign, and set a shared purpose for the coming year. I was fortunate enough to spend the first decade of my career in three different companies, all of whom had an immense focus on values and culture. In the last decade, we have seen a lot of changes for the worse, but it was not the same prior to 2010. There were really some great lessons that I learnt: Frugality: It was my first organisation and we were joining at the Chennai Headquarters where we were supposed to spend 2 months. We were staying at a luxurious hotel so we thought we should ask the HR. ‘The per day rent of the hotel is more than my monthly HRA!’. His response: ‘When the company is making you travel, you are leaving behind the comfort of your home, family, food and a lot of other things. This is the least that we can do for you.’ Openness & Trust: There used to be a line HR for every business unit who was empowered enough to question the business leaders. I was not happy with my Manager. As it was such trustworthy system, that I could openly tell my HR and my manager was changed in a day after understanding the fact that my growth would be hampered if I was scared of my manager. Building teams with the right spirit: The company had annual budget for a 3 days 2 nights team outing. The agenda was just to spend time together. It was not cloaked under some random presentations, business meeting followed by dinner and cocktails at night. What was understood was that the best team building could be done when people were free to interact. So clubbing business objectives of presentations and lectures did not make sense. Respecting Personal Time: These team outings were never even done on weekends, the company ensured that these outings were on weekdays. A culture driven from the top: The culture trickles down from the top. The organisation had a beautiful practice of monthly skip level meetings, then quarterly skip-skip and a country head meeting. What was ensured again was the openness and trust. We were able to talk to the leaders and not just listen to them in a Townhall. As these meetings were with focused groups, people were more comfortable to ask questions to an extent that it would be called questioning. Lastly, do if you care: I see a lot of companies following the ‘practice’ of ethnic days, the Diwali rangoli. While the new joiners are excited, the boardrooms are filled with people for whom it is business as usual. I remember, the country head personally took the day and visited each team and encouraged and gave out awards. That is why we understood it was important. It has been more than a decade, since I left my last corporate job; but these are the things I remember. I do not know what was the last drawn salary, but the sense of belongingness to these firms comes from somewhere else. I also went astray in my venture, where I followed some and missed some of these learning. Edit: I have worked only in three companies (Sify Technologies Limited., Evalueserve and CPA Global)

It’s a funny feeling when life sometimes comes full circle🔴… As I sit here in Mumbai, I feel #fortunate to be experiencing this ‘full circle’ feeling when it comes to RatePing Hotel Pricing Intelligence and its growth. Let’s go back to the beginning, when the circle was first created: Fresh out of college, I landed my dream job in Charlottesville. It was at an organization that provided hotel #technology and #revenuemanagement services to hotels in the US and Caribbean. I loved what I was doing. The #learning was incredible, the team even better and the #travel to exotic places like Barbados and Argentina was a cherry on top. I clearly remember being the first one in and the last one out of the office. Work didn’t feel like ‘work’, it was truly amazing. Some aspects weren’t always easy. I had packed up my life in New York where I had my then fiancée (now wife), brother and closest friends. The long distance relationship meant several loooong train rides every couple of weeks! But as the saying goes, happy wife - #happylife 😊 Yet, looking back, I wouldn't change a thing. As I returned to Mumbai, my hometown, I carried with me not just memories, but a vision. I saw a gap - hotels in our part of the world lacked access to the sophisticated software I'd worked with in the US. This realization became the cornerstone of Rateping. Now, years later, as fate would have it we have just onboarded two stunning properties in Charlottesville for Revenue Management and technology. The symmetry of it all is beautiful. The place where I cut my teeth in revenue management is now benefiting from the company I built based on those learnings. Life's journey is rarely linear, but sometimes it brings you back to where you started - with new #perspective and growth. Diverse teams bring a wide range of perspectives and experiences, which fosters creativity and leads to more innovative solutions. At Infotel UK Consulting we have individuals from different backgrounds and viewpoints can challenge the present and spark unique ideas.   It improves decision-making. A variety of perspectives in decision-making processes helps to avoid groupthink and results in more thorough consideration of options/ potential outcomes. This can lead to better decisions and strategies. I know myself when more people are involved in a project, better suggestions and ideas are put forward. Attract and retain talent. Companies that prioritize diversity often have a better reputation and are seen as more inclusive. This can attract top talent from a wider pool of candidates and help retain employees who value inclusivity. Enhanced employee performance and satisfaction. Inclusive environments where diversity is valued tend to have higher levels of employee engagement and satisfaction. When employees feel respected and valued, they are more likely to be productive and loyal to the company. Cultural Competence. A diverse workforce enhances a company’s cultural competence, which is the ability to effectively interact with people across different cultures. Customers and clients are increasingly seeking to do business with socially responsible companies. For me social responsibility is very important. We are privileged to be able to go to work and make a difference in our wider community.   Diversity makes more money. Research has shown that companies with diverse leadership and workforces tend to perform better financially. Diversity can drive business growth and profitability by opening new markets and enhancing competitiveness.   Overall, diversity is not just a social or ethical imperative but also a strategic advantage that can drive innovation, improve decision-making, and enhance performance.   What is that saying…. As someone who started working during the COVID period at LTIMindtree, when we all had curbs all across the world, what really mattered is how well the technology was to support seamless communication. The point mentioned by Richard Rekhy about the chemistry is on point and I am glad I had Aniket Mahamunkar Abhai A. N. Shukla, PMP® Chandresh Joshi who made sure that even during the Work from Home days, we as new joinees were heard, and I remember sitting hours on call with them to understand the work. After sometime when we started going to office, there was initial resistance but eventually we started loving the office space, got to meet amazing colleagues, and it created a new social space altogether. Humans are social animals, and cross learning happens only when you interact with your colleagues. I always vouch for a statement - If your workplace does not feel like home, maybe as organisation you're doing something wrong. Now that I am on the other side, let me talk about the redBus case on agility as part of one of our courses Agile in HRM and how they implemented metaverse all across the organisation as part of their Learning and Development initiative, actually shows that organisations are now looking towards hybrid , and with digitization, the potential it has in increasing engagement is manifold. I remember at DBTEZ TECHNOLOGIES we had software developers who were really skilled and were located at different places (India & abroad) and WFH model worked extremely well for those individuals! However, less experienced developers would need guidance and mentorship from experts like Gerard Antony or other seniors... Even for people like me, who was a program coordinator and needed to collaborate a lot... working in-person was the best way to go about it! So, at this point, I feel... it is difficult to define an "ideal" workspace model as a standardized whole! Covid has completely changed employee behavior on that front! I think the best way moving forward is have an agile (hybrid) workspace model... we just need to find the right balance!
