These four federal government agencies released a guide ensuring the rights and processes of LGBTQ applicants and employees who allege sexual orientation or gender identity discrimination. The guide is entitled "Addressing Sexual Orientation and Gender Identity Discrimination in Federal Civilian Employment: A Guide to Employment Rights, Protections, and Responsibilities.” LGBTQ anti-harrassment protection for federal workers are part of Title VII of the Civil Rights Act of 1964, the Civil Service Reform Act of 1978, and other federal procedures. These procedures assist LGBTQ government employees in pursuing their individual claims when they believe they are suffering from discrimination. 📢 From October 2024, there will be a new legal duty on employers in regards to sexual harassment, changing the duty from redress to prevention. We have two new courses launching which address Sexual Violence and Harassment in the Workplace, and are designed to help you ensure your organisation is ready for this change in the law. A new report by the EU Agency for Fundamental Rights shows that half of LGBTIQ+ people avoid holding hands in public because of fear of violence. Still to this day, conversion practices are allowed in many EU countries. Conversion practices repress LGBTIQ+ people because of their sexual orientation, gender expression or gender identity. Today, the collection for signatures for a new European Citizens' Initiative calling for a ban on conversion practices within the EU starts. A new study by the NY State Department of Labor found transgender, gender nonconforming and nonbinary people face widespread #employmentdiscrimination across New York. The study found that those groups experienced higher rates of unemployment and lower incomes than their cisgender counterparts. The study also revealed that while New York’s laws include gender identity as a protected class, many employers and employees are not aware of those legal rights.
