If you are passionate about environmental sustainability, the preservation of healthy wetlands, the protection of wildlife, or the conservation of endangered species, then you will be thrilled to learn about Kylies’ career journey! Meet Kylie Abouzeid, Environmental Analyst III our MassDOT Spotlight Employee this week! “I started with MassDOT in May 2022 as an Environmental Co-op in the Wetlands department. During my time as a co-op, I worked in both the Wetlands Unit and the Wildlife and Endangered Species Unit which are my two big passions. Learning about the different departments allowed me to determine what I was really drawn to and gain experience interpreting the complex regulations. I started full-time as an Environmental Analyst I in December 2022 and I have been promoted to Environmental Analyst III in April 2024. The scope of my job is ensuring that all projects that are in the design stages across Massachusetts receive the necessary permitting and clearances from regulatory agencies which protect Wetlands and Water Resources (including MassDEP, US Army Corps of Engineers, US Coast Guard, Coastal Zone Management). I have been lucky enough to work on the Cape Cod Bridges project and additionally I have enjoyed working on all projects that require US Coast Guard permitting because it is such a comprehensive process. Our team has been working on permitting twice as many projects this federal fiscal year as we did last year. One of my favorite things is when there are projects that are proposed in our hometowns, and it is so amazing how we get to watch them evolve. Environmental matters have a real-world impact right here and now and I am part of making those positive changes in our communities today. #Environmental #MassDOT #Wetland #Sustainability #Careerjourncy #Internship #Analyst

Here are three mistakes you're making when pursuing a career in wildlife conservation. 1. Not having practical experience 2. Not having a reference from an expert in the field 3. Lack of real industry knowledge So, how do you resolve this? 📹 Listen to our Wildlife Program Director, Henk De Villiers, as he shares four ways you can pursue a meaningful career that can help protect the Planet. Many conservation programs allow you to get directly involved in science-based conservation projects that are aligned with the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals. Without committing to anything long-term, you can volunteer, intern, do an apprenticeship, or join a research fellowship abroad where you will get practical experience and get guidance from experts and local environmental organisations. Find opportunities where you can watch your textbook knowledge come to life as you learn from experts who study biospheres in forests, lakes, oceans, shores, and savannah plains. Joining projects on the ground and showcasing actual experience on your CV will make you a sought-after candidate in the wildlife conservation industry. 🤝🌱 Learn more: https://lnkd.in/dMmUZAc8 #careeradvice #applicationprocess #applicationadvice #improveyourcv
