Hypertension is the most common chronic disease and has significant impacts on global public health. In a national hypertension survey of 451,755 adults, the average control rate for hypertension was 15.3 percent, which may be associated with poor drug adherence, atherosclerosis, and other complications. Virtual care solutions can vastly improve how chronic conditions are managed, leading to improved health outcomes, drug and dietary adherence, and quality of life. According to a remote blood pressure monitoring study published on the National Library of Medicine website, “Through continuous improvement and perfection, telemedicine will bring great benefits to mankind.” AMC Health is at the forefront of transforming the healthcare delivery experience for patients, providers, and payers alike to reduce hospital readmissions and improve outcomes. We’ve seen firsthand how virtual care solutions have impacted lives, including within our own remote blood pressure monitoring study in which patients experienced an 11/9 mmHg improvement and reduction in blood pressure over controls. Accurate diagnoses are the foundation of effective treatment, but unfortunately, misdiagnoses can have serious consequences for patients with diabetes. Studies have shown that diagnostic errors can occur due to various factors ineffective care coordination lack of access to specialist care inadequate health literacy and incomplete or inaccurate electronic health records. It's crucial for healthcare providers to stay up-to-date with the latest medical knowledge and technologies to ensure accurate diagnoses and optimal patient outcomes. Let's work together to close the gaps in diabetes care and prioritize patient well-being. Criteria for the Accurate Diagnosis :- Fasting Plasma Glucose - >/= 126mg/dl 2 hour PPG - >200 mg/dl Random Blood Glucose - >/= 200mg/dl HbA1C - > 6.5% Investigations :- Fasting C- Peptide levels Anti -GAD Antibodies #diabetes #accuratediagnosis

When it comes to hypernatraemia: The Systematized Nomenclature of Medicine Clinical Terminology February 2024 edition renamed diabetes insipidus as arginine vasopressin-related polyuria with two specific subtypes: arginine vasopressin deficiency and arginine vasopressin resistance. One of the reasons for this was shown in a recent survey of 1034 patients with central Diabetes Insipidus (CDI), 823 (80%) patients encountered a situation where a healthcare professional confused CDI with diabetes mellitus, and 884 (85%) patients supported renaming the disease https://lnkd.in/eQw5_kif #Nephrohealth #Nephrohealth_KA

💡 Did you know that your arm position can influence your blood pressure readings? 🩺 A recent study, published by researched at Johns Hopkins University in the JAMA (journal), highlights the importance of arm positioning during blood pressure measurements. It turns out that whether your arm is placed above or below heart level can lead to inaccuracies in your readings. Having your arm too high might result in lower readings, while placing it too low could lead to overestimations. This could lead to a 7mm Hg increase in the systolic reading and a 4mm Hg increase in the diastolic - just by having the arm lay on the lap. This finding emphasizes how crucial it is for healthcare professionals and patients alike to ensure proper arm positioning to avoid misdiagnosing or overlooking hypertension. 📌 Key takeaway: When taking your blood pressure at home or in a clinical setting, make sure your arm is at heart level for the most accurate results. 👉 Let’s continue to prioritize proper techniques in patient care. Accuracy in the details can lead to better health outcomes for everyone! A Reminder to Health Care Providers: NEW ICD-10 CODES—to be implemented in October 2024—include 3 new codes for presymptomatic type 1 diabetes millitus. Dr. Brigitte Frohnert, a research doctor at the Barbara Davis Center for Diabetes (barbaradaviscenter.org), led the development of the new presymptomatic T1D codes. Presymptomatic T1D codes will be important in order to identify this emerging patient population. Individuals with presymptomatic T1D may be eligible for interventions, both the FDA-approved teplizumab-mzvw (Tzield®) as well as various interventions under investigation. Further, appropriate monitoring of those with presymptomatic T1D will be important to avoid diabetic ketoacidosis (DKA) at the transition to symptomatic, insulin-requiring Stage 3 T1D. NEW codes to capture patients who are presymptomatic for type 1 diabetes mellitus: E10.A0 (Type 1 diabetes mellitus, presymptomatic, unspecified) E10.A1 (Type 1 diabetes mellitus, presymptomatic, Stage 1) E10.A2 (Type 1 diabetes mellitus, presymptomatic, Stage 2) Read more: https://lnkd.in/eHnmWjSe #type1diabetes #diabetes #T1D #health #medicine #MedicalResearch #healthcare #ICD10

Empowering Low-Income Patients with Home Blood Pressure Monitors to Improve Hypertension Control Empowering Low-Income Patients with Home Blood Pressure Monitors to Improve Hypertension Control ABSTRACT Managing hypertension (HTN) is vital in primary care, especially for uninsured and low-income patients. This study assessed the impact of providing free home blood pressure (BP) monitors on patients’ HTN control and therapy adherence at an underserved community clinic. The results showed that patients who received the intervention experienced significantly higher odds of controlled HTN and a greater proportion achieved BP control compared to the comparison group. Additionally, the intervention group had higher Therapy Adherence Scale (TAS) scores. These findings suggest that providing free home BP monitors to low-income patients can effectively improve BP control and therapy adherence. Clinical trials are essential in developing safe and effective treatments, and it’s crucial to integrate their benefits into everyday medical practice.
