Yesterday, Piet Adema, the minister of agriculture, nature, and food, opened a new field lab at Wageningen University & Research. In this field lab, Skytree’s DAC is capturing CO2 from the atmosphere to supply greenhouses with sustainable CO2, thereby lessening the dependence of CO2 from fossil fuels. CO2 uit de buitenlucht halen? De glastuinbouwsector is een belangrijke sector voor Nederland, wereldwijd toonaangevend en voorloper op het gebied van kennisontwikkeling en #innovatie en #duurzame productie. Een mooi voorbeeld is het programma Kas als Energiebron, waarmee onderzocht wordt hoe energie-efficiënter geteeld kan worden én hoe energievoorziening duurzamer kan. De sector wil in 2040 klimaatneutraal zijn en heeft hiervoor de afgelopen jaren al veel stappen gezet. Om deze ambities waar te maken zijn er in het Convenant Energietransitie Glastuinbouw ondersteunende maatregelen en financiële middelen opgenomen. Vandaag opende minister Piet Adema het Innovatie Demonstratie Centrum CO2 (IDCCO2) in Bleiswijk. Hier worden tests uitgevoerd hoe kwalitatief hoogwaardige #CO2 uit de buitenlucht gehaald kan worden. Een goede CO2 voorziening is van levensbelang voor de #glastuinbouw. Door toenemende energiebesparing en gebruik van duurzame energie komt minder CO2 beschikbaar. CO2 rechtstreeks uit de buitenlucht halen (Direct Air Capture: DAC) is een techniek die ervoor kan zorgen dat de glastuinbouw minder afhankelijk wordt van CO2 van externe bronnen. About seven months ago, we started a very valuable journey as Digital Strategy Consultants for the Port of Rotterdam. Through our project for STAR Erasmus Consulting me and my team had the great opportunity to develop a digital strategy towards European connectivity in the Maritime Industry. After weekly meetings, many brainstorm sessions, a flight to Iceland, and many calls with European ports we have proposed a strategy towards digital transformation in the European Maritime Industry. Despite the consequences of COVID-19, which impeded us from our three week trip to various ports in Europe, we still had the opportunity to fly to Iceland and meet with the Port of Reykjavik and their digital partners. Overall, this was a very valuable experience in which we have learned the ins and outs of consultancy and had the chance to work with one of the leading ports in the world. What a blast it has been! This past summer I graduated in International Business Administration with a double degree in Philosophy at Rotterdam School of Management, Erasmus University. These past years have been incredibly valuable for my personal growth. Studying IBA at RSM provided me with a strong foundation in international business and gave me the opportunity to study at Universitas Gadjah Mada in Yogyakarta, Indonesia. I completed both programmes by writing a thesis for IBA in Strategic Management on the relation of Top Management Team diversity on firm performance, and for Philosophy on the Corporate challenge of Ecological Sustainable Development and Greenwashing. Overall, I am pleased to have had the opportunity to study both studies, which challenged me to radically rethink the challenges our world faces today. Businesses play a crucial role in moving our world forward responsibly. And this experience gave me the potential to rethink business challenges in a broad scope, which I am very grateful for. I am beyond excited about continuing this academic year with Business Information Management (Msc) at RSM.
