I will not hire you if you don’t moonlight! These were the words of my CEO at TechUp Labs when we were discussing my offer! He clearly stated he wants people with a business mindset. He told me how he built his whole company. He said; I wouldn't be here today If i was not moonlighting, I would not be interviewing you today. I want people who understand what it takes to make every single $, I want people who know how businesses are run. I don't want to give tasks to anyone, you figure it out yourself, I will give you full independence to either grow the company or burn it to the ground He told me- I would have not hired you if you did not already do something of your own. I encourage Moonlighting, I encourage people to pursue their own thing along with my startup, I will even help you with it if you need. One Condition: Your Business should not disrupt your work here, that's all That sold it for me, this is exactly what I was looking for, especially in a remote role. This mindset is all that makes sense to me. I am accountable and independent. Let's see If I can deliver on these privileges. A random musing on common hiring alert posts calling for "Rockstar talent" It has become so common to find a post calling for Rockstar Coders, Rockstar product managers, Rockstar salespeople etc. on my LinkedIn feed that It got me thinking about the semantics (because what's life without a little semantic analysis) I asked Claude AI to list out top behavioral characteristics of "Rockstars" in pop culture. Here is what I got: * 🥃Substance abuse: Frequent struggles with drugs and alcohol addiction * 🤬Volatile temperament: Prone to outbursts, mood swings, & erratic behavior * 🫅Narcissism: Excessive self-importance and need for constant admiration * ❤️🩹Destructive behavior: Trashing hotel rooms, instruments, or other property * ⏰Unreliability: Showing up late or missing performances and appointments * 💆Exploitation: Taking advantage of fans or groupies * 🥺 Burnout: Struggling with the fame, leading to mental health issues Do you hiring managers (You know who you are :)) really want Rockstars on your team or will you settle for the Nerd?

Today, this repost feels more significant than others, after a very insightful convo recently. I remember being told “I think I’m too big for a role or a company” by a senior, because of my “radical” ways of thinking and actions as a result, and it’s taken me a while (still a WIP) to get past that comment, and show up as I normally would, propose ideas or share feedback as confidently as before, trying to navigate if someone would receive my “intensity” as intended, or with red flags or alarm bells. But as I worked and moved around the industry, and was exposed to different companies, departments & individuals, these sentiments start to hold more true to me each day: • “You can’t teach intensity, but it can spread, and I can be a torchbearer for that.” • “Some will recognise & appreciate it, and others won’t and that’s also OK…” And most importantly… • “It doesn’t mean you dim your fire (maybe adjust the approach), but feed those who are inquisitive enough to get close or an environment that dares to colour outside the lines.” Some really valuable advice from that very insightful convo: • Let go of the past 😮💨 • Unlearn some things & learn to trust those around you ❤️ • “Radical” was flagged as a point of concern 👀 but that is OK, and maybe a little of what is needed here 🫶 And maybe this reaches someone today, who needs this little reminder… Or is the start of something a little radical for someone who maybe just needed a little push 🔥 #beintense #beradical #beyourmostauthenticself
