Happy #MandelaDay from the AltGen offices! 🌿🎉🗝 Every year on the 18th of July, people across #SouthAfrica dedicate 67 minutes of their day to celebrate the idea that each individual has the power to transform the world. When we talk about the world, we are referring to whatever your world might be, from your family to your community, to your country. Today at AltGen, we decided to focus on the #Stellenbosch #community and dedicated our 67 minutes to making soup jars for Feeding in Action, a local NPO. Feeding in Action has 55 strategic feeding points in the broader Stellenbosch Municipal Area and supports 25 community organisations. We are so grateful to have been able to contribute to this initiative. We hope our networks feel inspired to spend some time today, any day or every day to put some effort into making a positive difference around them! #MandelaDay #FeedingInAction #Team #TeamIniative #TeamWork #JoinOurTeam #PositiveImpact Lezane Rossouw #PositiveDifference

In India's development sector, a paradox persists: substantial CSR funds coexist with underfunded grassroots NGOs. Despite their profound community impact, these NGOs struggle due to a trust deficit and limited networking. The Path Forward: Field Visits: CSRs should engage with grassroots NGOs on the ground to build trust. Collaboration with Umbrella Organizations: Collaborate with networks like the Noble Citizen Foundation for vetted NGO partnerships. Events: Participate in "NGO-CSR Round Table" events to discover and connect with impactful NGOs. By diversifying funds and fostering connections, CSRs can drive inclusive, community-level change. It's time to unlock the transformative power of grassroots organizations. #NGO #CSR #CorporateSocialResponsibility #Philanthrophy #NGOFunding #CSRFunding #DevelopmentSector #SocialSector #NobleCitizenFoundation

Imagine a group of passionate activists gathers in a community center, united by a common goal: to advocate for better access to clean water in their region. A scene that is becoming increasingly common across Africa, as non-profits step up to drive systemic change and shape #publicpolicy. But what makes these efforts successful? Let's paint this picture together, shall we? Meet Amina, a #community #leader in rural Kenya. She realised that her village’s struggle for clean water could no longer go unnoticed. With the help of a local non-profit, Amina started a grassroots mobilisation campaign. She engaged her neighbors, educated them about their rights, and organised peaceful demonstrations. The sheer number of voices united for this cause made it impossible for local officials to ignore. Grassroots mobilisation, especially when led by respected community figures like Amina, can create a groundswell of support that drives real #change. In Ghana, another inspiring story unfolds. Kwame, a dedicated policy analyst, collaborates with a non-profit focused on improving education. Together, they conducted extensive research, gathering #data from various schools to understand the challenges faced by students and teachers. Armed with solid evidence, they presented their findings to the Ministry of Education. Policymakers were compelled by the data and the practical solutions offered. This approach shows how critical policy #research and #analysis are in crafting recommendations that resonate with #decisionmakers. Building alliances is another powerful #strategy. In Uganda, several health-focused non-profits formed a coalition to tackle maternal mortality. By joining forces, they combined their resources, expertise, and networks, creating a formidable advocacy front. Their unified voice was louder and more influential, reaching regional bodies like the East African Community. Coalition building allows non-profits to amplify their message and exert greater #influence on #policy decisions. #Publicawareness campaigns are equally vital. Consider the story of Ntombi, a young activist in South Africa. Using social media, she launched a campaign highlighting the plight of children in informal settlements who lack access to education. Her powerful storytelling and use of local media caught the public’s attention and sparked widespread outrage. Policymakers, facing mounting pressure, were forced to address the issue. Ntombi’s success underscores the importance of leveraging media and public relations to raise awareness and compel action. These stories from across Africa illustrate how non-profits are successfully influencing public policy through innovative advocacy strategies. By mobilising communities, conducting rigorous research, building coalitions, and raising public awareness, #nonprofits can drive significant, lasting change.

We had the opportunity to support and visit "There Is Life Here," a non-profit and social enterprise, that stands as a beacon of light. Every day, these incredible women offer a lifeline to Kayamandi's youth. They serve nutritious meals, a simple act that nourishes not just bodies but also the dreams of a brighter tomorrow. Their initiative is a reminder that even the smallest act of kindness can have a profound impact. This Youth Day, let's honour the spirit of the forgotten struggles of the past and the unwavering hope that burns bright. Let's be the change we want to see. Here are some ways you can make a difference: 1. Support organisations like "There Is Life Here," "COMMUNITY KEEPERS," and "Pebbles Project." Many NGOs work tirelessly to empower youth in underserved communities. Research local organisations and donate your time, resources, or financial support. 2. Buy locally, buy mindfully. Every Rand spent is a vote for the future you want to see. Support local markets and businesses that empower entrepreneurs and families or organisations like the CoCreate Hub in Stellenbosch connect you directly with these vendors. 3. Tell people about projects you care about and follow our journey on social media as we continue to use coffee for change. Share the story of "There Is Life Here" and other organisations making a difference. Let's empower the youth of today to become the change-makers of tomorrow. Together, we can build a more just and equitable future for all. Share an organisation that inspires you to show up for your community.
