Huge news has hit the Motor Sports world this week with the owner of Formula 1, Liberty Media, announcing a takeover of the MotoGP motorcycle racing league.    Liberty Media will acquire approximately 86% of MotoGP’s parent company, Dorna, who will remain as an independently run company based in Madrid, Spain.    Dorna chief executive Carmelo Ezpeleta, said “This is the perfect next step in the evolution of MotoGP, and we are excited for what this milestone brings to Dorna, the MotoGP paddock and racing fans”.    The convergence of two leagues presents plenty of exciting opportunities for both bodies with Gemba’s Managing Director Andrew Condon posing several questions. Will there be more races in the Middle East and the US? Will MotoGP and F1 leverage infrastructure and race on consecutive weekends? Or will we see the emergence of crossover athletes between leagues? All set for the debut in the FIA World Endurance Championship 2024 with 26 drivers. After the #F1 tests in Bahrain, Stilo is about to face a double commitment with the first round of the FIA WEC at Lusail and the second of the FIA W2RC in Abu Dhabi. In #Qatar 26 Stilo drivers will be on the grid, 10 in the Hypercar class and 16 in the new LMGT3, confirming that the Italian brand is one of the most represented on the starting grid. The most used models for this discipline, which is one of the most fascinating and popular at the moment, are the ST5 GT, GTN, and FN. Simultaneously with the WEC, Stilo will also be present at the Abu Dhabi Desert Challenge, the second round of the FIA W2RC taking place in the deserts of the United Arab Emirates. 🏁 If you talk about #sports, motorsports won't always feature at the top of the conversation. From my point of view motorsport is comparable to many other sports with the added variable of the vehicle. Material and technology is part of many other sports (e.g. Cycling, bobsleigh, biathlon or even swimming) but within motorsports technology and material has a clearly visible and high impact on performance. 🏍️ The #MotoGP race in Jerez this past weekend delivered heart-stopping moments and intense battles on the track. It was the reigning champion Francesco (Pecco) Bagnaia who took victory after a fierce battle with the eight-time world Champion Marc Marquez. The last few laps were incredible and showcased motorsports in its purest form. Given the fact that Marquez rides the last years Ducati in a private team compared to Pecco riding for the Ducati factory team with the newest specification of the 2024 bike it will be exciting to see whether Marquez will be able to win and outweigh the potential disadvantage of an year old bike. Nevertheless, the visceral experience of watching these fearless riders push the limits of man and machine is unmatched. At the finish line the gap was only 0.372 seconds between the two contenders. ⏳ I am excited to see what the recent acquisition of the MotoGP through Liberty Media will bring to the series. Liberty Media have shown that they are able to expand the reach and excitement of a motorsport series globally. Their success with Formula 1 is proven but as a petrol head I must admit that the modern Formula 1 is drifting into a direction that is not in my favour. Don't get me wrong, I love Formula 1 - the precision engineering, the strategic prowess, the glitz and glamour—it's all part of what makes F1 so captivating. But there's something about the raw, unbridled passion of MotoGP that sets my pulse racing like nothing else. 🤔 I am curious to find out if there will be a change within the next year in viewership and the fanbase of MotoGP. BWT Alpine F1 Team heads to Circuit of Spa Francorchamps s.a. for Round 14 of the 2024 FIA F1 World Championship, the Belgian Grand Prix. Esteban Ocon: After racing in F1 for a number of years, it is still an incredible feeling to be racing at Circuit de Spa-Francorchamps where I made my Formula 1 debut back in 2016. It is a classic track and the longest on the calendar, which makes it a unique test for us drivers with its long straights and variety of corners. The weather always comes into play in Belgium especially considering the size of the track and how conditions can vary from one section of the circuit to another. This means that strategy will be key for the race, and we need to work as one to make the right calls and have a successful weekend. Pierre Gasly: We are aiming for a much better weekend in Spa to see us into the summer shutdown. We went well last year, finishing third in the Sprint, which was an amazing result. It’s a standard weekend format this time around and after the tough previous events, we are incredibly determined to perform the best we can. I love racing this track, it’s one of my favourites, but the feelings I have here are always going to be contrasting. The first half of 2024 has been difficult for everyone, at the factory and at the track, but we’re in a much better place than we were in Bahrain, and we can improve more.
