Recently, I had the opportunity to visit the Sloomoo Institute Slime Laboratory, an "Innovation by Design" award-winning project recognized by #FastCompany. Here, I explored the sensory world of slime-making and engaged in a hands-on creative experience. I wanted to share this enriching activity in connection with an insightful reflection by Thomas Klaffke, a great observer of shifting societal ideas and behaviors, who has recently highlighted a shift towards #TheNeedToLiveMorePlayfully. This trend underscores how our lives have become dominated by an unhealthy capitalist productivity ethic. We've become so immersed in the "achievement society" that we often overlook the simple joy of doing something purely for its own sake. At the Slime Laboratory, I shared the passion and joy inherent in true play, free from the pressures of achievement and the need for external validation, simply embracing the activity for its intrinsic value. Living more playfully is not merely an individual choice but a collective movement towards breaking free from the constraints of the achievement society. It's a call to prioritize engaging work that brings joy and to recognize and celebrate the intrinsic value of play in enhancing our social well-being. In my creative role at work, maintaining a playful, childlike mindset is crucial; to allow exploration, where failure is possible and therefore innovation is more likely to happen in a free environment. This experience served as a great reminder of the transformative #PowerOfPlay. As we navigate the complexities of modern life, let's make room for opportunities to reconnect with our playful selves, challenge prevailing norms, and advocate for a more balanced and joy-filled approach to living.
