Is security a boring job?
As I was passing through the main gate of the office, I saw the security guard Ramsingh at the gate looking sweaty, tired and depressed. I went up to him, “Pucha dost kya haal hai, manool gira gaya kya hai?” (What happened friend, it seems your morale has gone down). He said, “Sahib ek to dhoop, aur humein koi poochhe nahi, rojan ka yahi kaam, bis saal ho gaye karte”
Security operations in the corporate environment are often perceived as dull, monotonous and machine-like. Security guards, supervisors and managers on the shop floor perform repetitive tasks, which can sometimes lead to complacency. This complacency can lead to incidents or emergencies that could have been negated, prevented or detected with a more proactive approach.
But does it have to be like this? Absolutely not!
Some ways we can turn these routine tasks into engaging, energetic and vibrant activities:
We can turn these routine tasks into engaging, energetic and lively activities:-
1. Personal interactions build trust and understanding, fostering a culture of open communication and feedback, both at work and off work.
2. Timely compensation and benefits reduce stress and improve morale. Always pay and leave on time.
3. Regular training sessions that go beyond the basics. Include real-life scenarios, technological advancements and soft skills development.
4. Set up friendly competitions, offer awards for outstanding performance and make routine activities more engaging.
5. Implement a rotational system of duties. This reduces monotony and helps them develop a broader skill set.
6. Encourage employees to make informed decisions by giving them the authority to act in different situations.
7. Highlight the importance of taking responsibility for their actions and the consequences of their duties.
8. Help employees understand how their responsibilities fit into the organization's broader mission and goals.
9. Ensure feedback from all employees is taken regularly and further strategies are worked upon accordingly.
Let's strive to make every shift a dynamic experience and turn every team member into an active safety champion.
Congratulations on the growth ALLETE! Great opportunity.
