Thursday thoughts: It’s been a looong time since I was the “new kid” at work, and it’s been an even looonger time since I was a summer intern. As the olde…, um, most seasoned intern in the Omaha metro area, here’s what I’ve learned after six weeks: 1. I don’t know anything, and that’s OK. It’s kind of a relief because I was the veteran teacher who (allegedly) knew everything. 2. Working 8-5 is an adjustment. It’s very different from teaching from 8-3:30. 3. Don’t be afraid to ask questions. 4. You belong there. They wouldn’t have hired you if they didn’t think you could do the job and were a good fit for the office. 5. Welcome and seek out feedback. 6. Ask for projects and additional work if you find yourself with an empty inbox. 7. Identify and cultivate relationships with potential mentors. 8. It’s OK to sit back and just observe for awhile. You have to warm up to the others in the office just as they have to warm up to you. 9. Learn people’s names and call them by their name. (This is an old Dale Carnegie trick) 10. You’re going to make mistakes. Take responsibility for them, fix them if possible, and learn from them.

On Wednesday 7th February CIS Security Limited Account Director, Kieron Nunney, hosted his first Quarterly Managers Meeting of 2024 at Moor House, this was a great opportunity for the team to sit down and set out their future goals and objectives for this coming year of 2024.   Many subjects were discussed, and fantastic key outcomes were reached. Company Trainer, Daniel S., discussed apprenticeship opportunities for this year, explaining how this would be approached and what will be provided in the future. One of our newest members to the team Jim McAllister QPM, our Colleague Development Manager, delivered a brief on the upcoming ‘Colleague Development Programme’ going into detail of how this would be delivered from start to finish. Director of Risk and Intelligence Ray Marskell MSyl clarified our current threat level and gave an important intelligence update lastly, we had Carl Scott and Karla Loft from Project Youth, inform the team on the current state of the newly introduced bleed control boxes, this was invaluable information as we look to continue the push and increase the availability to the wider business.   As the meeting concluded, there was a collective sense of accomplishment and satisfaction, with participants leaving informed and motivated to apply the insights gained in their respective fields. This manager's meeting was a great blend of seamless expertise and collaboration and nothing short of great.   To conclude this day was a huge success and as a result, the team learned that there were several sign-ups for the colleague development programme, apprenticeships, and bleed control bags.   #cis #security #management #future

Meet Murphy Alum, Quinnyata Bellows from the North Shore Country Day School Class of 2015. During her time at DMSF, Quinnyata participated in Affinity Groups and held a Walgreens Corporate Internship. Today, she works as a freelance producer and costume manager. Let’s hear what advice she has to share! 💙What was DMSF’s impact on you? 💛I learned that staying connected with my community and creating connections that last a life time can benefit me more than any fleeting moments. The people I have met through Daniel Murphy have influenced me in a number of ways. So many doors have opened for me that I never thought I would have access to because of volunteers and staff that have reached out to me during and after my scholarship program. It would be an understatement to say that I have gained a number of mentors that have paved a way for someone like me to flourish in the arts and make a career out of something that was just my passion and curiosity at the time. 💙Why was receiving a good education so important to you? 💛The older I get the more impactful my education history has been for me. With every decision I make, the skills and ability to navigate through society were just basic lessons taught to me through programming and courses dedicated to ensuring my success in the past. I may not have fully understood the weight of an amazing education in my teenage years but seeing how things could have been more troubling for me now makes me all the more grateful for the opportunities I had. This ever changing appreciation for my education is what makes it so important. 💙What advice do you have for current Murphy Scholars? 💛Take advantage of everything. This seems like a simple task but I think at a young age it’s easy to look past the small details but every thing that comes your way is a potential door that can opened and explored. Whether that is introducing yourself to someone new or being the first to volunteer, there is absolutely nothing unavailable to you unless you believe it. Here are some things we have at 4PointZero: - Flexible working - Support & positive attitude - We encourage getting apprenticeships - Team dinners & drinks every now and then - Not punishing for mistakes - we talk through them  - We say no to micromanaging  - We work from anywhere months in August and December - I trust that everyone working at 4PointZero is a professional.
