In partnership with the Pittsburgh Riverhounds SC, we recently honored individuals who are making a difference in the community with the return of the "Change Makers" series. This year’s theme, “Kids in the Community,” highlighted youth who’ve gone above and beyond with service and charitable works in the Western Pennsylvania region. “We are excited to be part of celebrating Pittsburgh’s youth who are leading the charge in helping their fellow neighbors and communities in innovative and meaningful ways,” said Kenya T. Boswell, senior vice president of community affairs at Highmark Health, who presented the awards to the kids.

After a rigorous application and selection process, Carpe Diem Arts has been successfully chosen to be a partner organization of Spur Local, formerly known as Catalogue for Philanthropy. Spur Local says, "All nonprofit partners are chosen by residents who live or work in the Greater Washington region. As part of our annual review process, these 170+ volunteers look beyond the traditional metrics of evaluation and address questions that people don’t always think to ask or have the time to assess. What need is a nonprofit meeting? Are its finances sound? What impact does it make on our local communities, and how does it involve communities in their work? Through this democratic decision-making process, we then determine the critical local nonprofits that join our network, and enter a four-year partnership with us."

Check out this article from OCG’s very own Taryn Taddeo Palumbo! Nonprofits exist in communities across the country, and there are more than 1.8 million nonprofits registered in the U.S. Yet, in an annual review conducted of nonprofits, only 13% of nonprofits reported engaging voters in 2022. At Orange County Grantmakers, we are pleased to support Charitable Ventures, on its OC Votes initiative to help nonprofits understand the important role they play in getting out the vote. Through resources like voter guides from LAist , the Orange County Register, and Voice Of OC, we encourage noprofit and community leaders to learn about the local issues on the upcoming ballot. Nonprofit-driven voter engagement is not only a chance to help communities better understand how casting a ballot matters in hyperlocal issues affecting their everyday lives, but it’s also an opportunity to advance equity by ensuring our democracy fully represents the vibrant, diverse communities that exist across this nation. We were pleased to support the 2024 Northwest Nonprofit Capacity Report. What were the top three capacity needs identified by our nonprofits? 1. Resources: This is always the top priority - the ongoing funding of incredible work. 2. People: Succession planning, meaningful staff development, effective volunteer engagement, dusting off HR policies that haven't been touched in 7 years... 3.
