I'm honored to present one of my recently published papers as a shared first author, "Cincinnati Prehospital Stroke Scale (CPSS) as a Screening Tool for Early Identification of Cerebral Large Vessel Occlusions; a Systematic Review and Meta-analysis". The full-text paper is available at: https://lnkd.in/gmTgZYPZ One of the most effective ways to predict cerebral large vessel occlusion (LVO) requiring specialized neurosurgical care among stroke patients is through clinical decision rules and stroke assessment scales. The Cincinnati Prehospital Stroke Scale (CPSS) is one of the most promising tools in this regard. In our systematic review and meta-analysis, we found that CPSS with a cutoff of ≥2 demonstrated good sensitivity and specificity in detecting LVO, both in prehospital and in-hospital settings. This can help expedite transfer of suspected LVO stroke patients to comprehensive stroke centers for prompt endovascular treatment. This work highlights the importance of pre-hospital stroke assessment tools to improve acute stroke care. A groundbreaking network meta-analysis comparing intravascular image-guided coronary revascularization techniques has just been released, offering invaluable insights for clinicians and researchers alike. The study evaluates the efficacy and safety of various image-guided techniques, providing evidence to guide decision-making in the cath lab. Key findings highlight the superiority of intravascular imaging-guided coronary intervention in optimizing stent placement and improving patient outcomes. As a clinical specialist with Philips, I'm thrilled to see how this research advances our understanding of optimal treatment strategies for coronary artery disease. This updated network meta-analysis reaffirms the importance of leveraging advanced imaging technologies to achieve precision and accuracy in coronary interventions. Kudos to the dedicated researchers for their pioneering work in pushing the boundaries of cardiovascular care! Over the recent weeks, two scientific publications confirmed what we had previously deemed highly probable: #Photoncounting CT changes the management and treatment decisions of cardiac patients. Moritz Halfmann et al of University Medical Center Mainz showed that using the high spatial resolution of Quantum HD Cardiac on NAEOTOM Alpha led to reclassification of 54% of patients to a lower CAD-RADS category. https://lnkd.in/dWdHrQqz Judit Simon MD PhD et al of Semmelweis University reported that using the aforementioned Quantum HD Cardiac scan mode - compared to conventional whole heart coverage detector CT - reduced the referral rate in CAD patients to the cathlab by 50%. https://lnkd.in/dijxd3xc I talked to radiologists of both hospitals and was happy to hear that not only has this change in patient management been adopted in daily practice but also that the interventional cardiology departments are highly supportive of this paradigm change. I am looking forward to the next logical step where the impact of this change in patient management on the overall healthcare costs (hospitals & insurers) shall be investigated. In this episode, host Dr. Michael Barraza interviews Dr. Zola N’Dandu, an interventional cardiologist at Ochsner Medical Center in Louisiana, about building a successful critical limb ischemia (CLI) program. Dr. N’Dandu discusses the evolution of CLI in the last decade and how more medications, therapies, and data are now available to support patient care. Advancements such as radial-to-pedal, 3rd and 4th-generation stents, proliferative therapy with stents, drug-coated balloons, and bio-absorbable stents all contribute to redefining the CLI treatment algorithm. Dr. N’Dandu emphasizes that our treatment of no-option-CLI patients needs to change. One of the treatments that he uses for these patients is deep vein arterialization, a technique that was first discovered in 1912 but still has more potential for growth.
