"What biotech or pharma roles am I a good fit for out of a PhD or postdoc?" Just use ChatGPT to....oh wait. Never mind. 😕 Here's a simple 3 step method That doesn't involve ChatGPT 𝗦𝘁𝗲𝗽 𝟭: 𝗧𝗵𝗶𝗻𝗴𝘀 𝘆𝗼𝘂'𝘃𝗲 𝗱𝗼𝗻𝗲 Make a list of all of the things you have done in the lab Example: -Cell culture -ELISA -Western blot -Protein purification -Xenografts -Surgery -Presentations -SOPs -Mentoring trainees -etc., etc. 𝗦𝘁𝗲𝗽 𝟮: 𝗧𝗵𝗶𝗻𝗴𝘀 𝘆𝗼𝘂'𝘃𝗲 𝗲𝗻𝗷𝗼𝘆𝗲𝗱 Now go back to the list from step one. Rank each of the skills in terms of how much you enjoyed it 1 = never want to do again 5 = loved it Sort these skills, and pick all of your 4s & 5s. These are the things that you know how to do and enjoy doing. 𝗦𝘁𝗲𝗽 𝟯: 𝗖𝗿𝗲𝗮𝘁𝗲 𝗮 𝘁𝗮𝗿𝗴𝗲𝘁𝗲𝗱 𝗟𝗶𝗻𝗸𝗲𝗱𝗜𝗻 𝘀𝗲𝗮𝗿𝗰𝗵 Create a search string using the formula below: [keyword for title] AND [keywork for skills] AND [anything else] Hint: Quotes make the search more specific ---------- 𝗘𝘅𝗮𝗺𝗽𝗹𝗲 𝟭: You are looking for an R&D role and you enjoy in vivo work. Search 1: "scientist" AND "vivo" hit results: 62 You want to narrow down further to pharmacology focus Search 2: "scientist" AND "vivo" AND "pharmacology" hit results: 29 Now you can read through the 29 results and see if there's anything that is a good fit ---------- 𝗘𝘅𝗮𝗺𝗽𝗹𝗲 𝟮: You are looking for a role in assay development. You enjoy doing transfections and want to work in a space where you can work on protein expression. Search: "scientist" AND "assay" AND ("protein" OR "transfection") hit results: 6 No need to refine further 👉Important: Anytime you use "AND","OR" in your search strings, make sure thy are all caps. If they are not in all caps, linkedin search will not work correctly. ---------- 𝗪𝗵𝗮𝘁 𝗻𝗲𝘅𝘁?
