$5.5 billion dollars. This number reflects UnitedHealth Group’s recently reported net earnings in Q2 alone - up 8 percent year over year. UnitedHealth Group's second-quarter earnings report was released July 14 and reflected double-digit growth in revenue year over year across UnitedHealthcare and Optum. Total revenues in the second quarter were $92.9 billion, up 15.7 percent YoY. These numbers powerfully contrast with shrinking provider profit margins and reflect the imbalance between two systems that will need to work together in order to keep healthcare accessible. 🔊👂😲 We would love to hear your thoughts on this report: UnitedHealth Group emerged as the most profitable payer in the second quarter of 2023, despite concerns among major payers about rising utilization rates as patients resumed deferred healthcare services. UnitedHealth Group reported a substantial $5.5 billion in profit for the quarter and $11.1 billion for the first half of the year, outperforming its competitors. The closest rival in terms of second-quarter profit was CVS Health, with $1.9 billion, and $4 billion for the first half of the year. UnitedHealth also led in terms of revenue, reporting $92.9 billion for the second quarter and $184.8 billion for the first six months, though CVS Health closely followed with $88.9 billion in revenue for Q2 and $174.2 billion for H1. Q four United earnings out now: While their stock “stumbled” here is the breakdown: - Q4 revenue = $94.4b - Q4 profit = $22.4BILLION - 2023 revenue = $371.6b - 2023 profit = $22.4BILLION This was on a 83.2% MLR, which would’ve been lower had it not been for the recent respiratory surge. Double-digit growth in both Optum and Health Plan. Optum grew VBC patients by 900k to now over 4m and increased revenue by nearly 30% from its acquisition of Change Healthcare. The health plan side saw growth in commercial and MA but lost 700k Medicaid lives. 2024 projections = $400-403B, growing by 30+% and EPS of $27-28. 🔸UnitedHealth (UNH) Share Price Surges after Strong Report🔸 UnitedHealth shares surged Tuesday, rising more than 5% after the health care giant delivered stronger-than-expected first-quarter 2024 results: → earnings per share: actual = USD 6.91, expected = USD 6.61, last quarter = USD 6.16; → gross income: actual = USD 94.4 billion, expected = USD 92.1 billion. UnitedHealth CEO Andrew Whitty said health care costs rose sharply last year, and he attributed much of the rise to the effects of the Covid-19 pandemic. Also adding positive news to investors was UnitedHealth Group's handling of the Feb. 21 cyberattack on its Change Healthcare subsidiary, which disrupted hospital and pharmacy operations for more than a week and cost an estimated USD 872 million.
