Howdy all, In early 2023, I took a leap of faith and started my own social media marketing and content creation business, Texas Tornado Creative, based in the beautiful Texas Wine Country, Fredericksburg, TX. I proudly specialize in small business social media marketing and am always looking forward to developing myself, my brand, and my clients. Initially, I didn’t post about this venture because I wanted to see how it would play out. Soon enough, I became too busy to manage it all, but becoming self-employed quickly became the best decision I ever made for myself. I am honored to work with 3 amazing clients: Savy Ray’s Boutique: A high-volume boutique on Main Street in Historic Fredericksburg, my first client in the Texas Hill Country. Grand Central at Milam: A brand new, local village market and event center. This is my passion project because I share an amazing vision with the owners, who are exceptionally magnificent people. Covington Cellars: A 20+ year old production out of Washington State that opened a tasting room in the TX Hill Country, right outside of Hye, TX. With award-winning Texas and Washington wines and unmatched Hill Country views, it’s a five-star wine tasting room on the 290 Wine Trail. This is a huge moment for me and my business. One of my clients (Covington Cellats) is flying me out to Seattle this weekend to do several lifestyle and event photoshoots for their marketing content. I’m very excited and quite anxious about the venture. 📸 Recently, I hired an intern/social media assistant who is a senior at Schreiner University, out of Kerrville, TX, studying marketing. Since taking this leap of being self-employed and especially since hiring Sarah, I’ve been much happier and had much more flexibility with my young family. Unsolicited advice: I highly recommend my fellow business owners make contact with the local college’s internship department for an introduction to students who want to be part of their local internship program. From my experience, these college students are looking for college credit and mine creates quality ROI. Thank you to everyone who has supported me on this journey. Working in the sports industry requires grit, vision, and a crazy amount of work ethic. If you’re wanting to break into the sports industry, here’s what NOT to do: ❌ Send messages via LinkedIn and email without doing any research ❌ Apply to jobs with skill(s) that don’t connect to your application ❌ Give up after a few months Here’s what to do: ✅ Develop one skill that will translate to the sports industry ✅ Keep track of past success and metrics from all of your experiences, internships, and jobs ✅ Spend time time mapping out your sports career goals (6 months, 1 year, 3 years, etc) ✅ Grow personal brand on 1 social media platform ✅ Introduce yourself in-person at sports industry events and conferences (save contact info) ✅ Find a way to help a sports company or organization on a part-time basis as way to get your foot in the door (and gain experience)

Alright 2024 grads, this one's for you! (or anyone else trying to break into sports) Here's some of the most common questions I receive + my answers/insights: 1) Who should I reach out to within the organization? - Pro Sports: Inside Sales Manager - College Athletics: Director of Ticket Sales 2) How can I set myself apart from other candidates? - Complete an internship with a sports organization - Express a passion for sales/business development (This is different than being a big sports fan) - Do research on the organization and ask meaningful questions during the interview (Having zero questions prepared is a missed opportunity) 3) What the best advice I've ever received? - The best advice I've received is to take your first job based on who is going to be your first manager since that person is going to help the lay foundation for your career. Ask way too many questions and stay curious about all aspects of your role, or others you may think you’d be interested in.  ⛳ Fun Fact: I liked this photo because it is one of the only pictures I’ve taken of myself golfing and it happens to be at my favorite course. College student interested in sports? You should join… your school’s sports business club If they don’t have one, then start one! Participate tons your 1st year, ✅ ask questions ✅ bring friends ✅ have fun! Volunteer for a leadership role your 2nd year 🚀 Grow the club Get a table at a popular building on campus and hand out flyers. Network by inviting guest speakers. 🚀 Aim high! I’ve never had someone turn down an invitation to speak to my sports business club. (I have had people not reply, but that's different 😉). 🚀 Apply to internships because… Now you've got ✅ industry experience ✅ leadership experience ✅ you’re growing your network, and ✅ you’re learning what you like / don’t like ♻️ Repost if this was helpful P.S.
