Golf is probably the #1 sport where somebody might think: "This isn't for me." I'll admit it: I used to think that way too, but all the reasons you think golf is irrelevant to you are *exactly* why leagues like TGL will succeed (and why I own their first team, Los Angeles Golf Club) First, even if you think "golf isn't for me", you're still highlighting a key benefit the sport has: brand awareness. In my experience, when people know what something is but just don't see how it's useful yet, that's a market that's just waiting to pop off and be disrupted. And if I, growing up a middle class white kid (+ now a pretty wealthy white man) thinks this sport isn't for ME — there must be a LOT of other people who feel this way. Even with Tiger, this sport has historical baggage, but that is my opportunity — to judo throw that energy. Build a team representing an amazing & diverse city like LA with a different kind of energy — that golf is for EVERYONE — in a format that is modern, entertaining, and action-packed in front of a live crowd... NOW you can get someone's attn bc this isn't what they thought it was. For any emerging franchise, that's the energy to look for – people have one expectation, and you come in and flip that expectation on its head. That worked for women's soccer with Angel City Football Club & I believe it'll work for my second pro sports team: Los Angeles Golf Club More to do.

As a sport brand, golf has a lot of "baggage." Some deserved, some not. Country clubs have a LOT to do with the inertia behind some of that baggage. One might think that the charity tournaments would help shake loose some of that baggage, but oddly they often reinforce the stereotypes despite many country clubs bleeding cash. Hoping that your initiative can transform the sport. Public courses alone can't accomplish the vision, so it's going to take the cooperation and collaboration of private clubs and public courses to provide a place for folks to practice before they get to an arena.

Golf is ripe for disruption to it's (digital) experience. From just the amateur side of things, how much fun what it be to have a mobile app connect to cameras around the courses?! Camera's that geolocate to your phone, and allow you to instantly save that hole in one shot...perhaps even allow those same players to live broadcast to family and friends around the world 😏 On the flip side, this same app connects to the clubhouse grill, enabling golfers (consumers) to instantly order food and beverage from anywhere on the course.

I love this and I love the start of Los Angeles Golf Club. As a tour pro and someone that is a "golf nerd", I genuinely picked up the game saying "golf isn't for me". That's until I found the right approach, the right people, and the "vibe" I wanted from it. Good luck in this endeavor, cant wait to watch the success!

Not only did I say "golf isn't for me" I doubled up and believed it was a waste of space and water. Born and raised in Los Angeles, both are at a premium and why waste it on golf. Fast forward to 1.5 years ago when I took a sabbatical, thought about how much I loved nature, hikes and competition, I taught myself to play golf and now I'm hooked. Each shot is truly unique, the people you meet all have stories to share and then you shoot an 83 (+11) and think you can join the tour. For now, "I'll dress like a tour pro and play like the average Joe." :). Alexis Ohanian Sr. we partnered at Quarterly.co back in the day. Hope you're well.

Alexis Ohanian Sr. You must be eves dropping.... We mentioned the brand of golf this morning in a team meeting. 50% of people you talk to say, it is not for me, and if you chat to one of the 80m+ golfers in the world, they can't imagine their life without it. It's such a fascinating sport to have such a polar opinion. I think there are incredible opportunities in golf and why I was so bullish on leading the A round in Clippd From the moment you swing a club, you want to get better. Clippd helps every golfer from day one to pro, improve, learn and have fun doing it! I cant wait to see Los Angeles Golf Club come to life. To ignite and redefine the culture of golf in the city of LA - powerful.

It's why I launched Strokin Golf, to make the game more fun and approachable for those who are intimated or feel the game is too "stuffy". It's why the tagline is "18 holes of tee boxes meets tailgates", we're trying to make it as approachable as a game of cornhole.

Golf requires the same skills as an entrepreneur: resilience, focus and audacity 😉
